My wife and I followed this recipe years ago and since then we've had an inside joke that Chef John is trying to get us wasted. Thank you Chef John!

Frost forming on the outside, on the outside, on the outside.

Adding a dash of fresh lemon juice opens up the flavors even more

Fresh ice is so much better than old stale ice.

Margaritas are one of my favorite adult beverages.. for the rim- try dipping in simple syrup or rich syrup, your choice, and then salting it. It plays very well with the sweet, sour, salty flavors of a margarita. Also, I hate beer, BUT adding just a splash of (a flavorless beer) bud light, or bud light lime- if you have it- really adds a little extra something to it. ❤

I was drinking strawberry margaritas while on vacation with my family in Mexico, and my glass never emptied because we were sitting at the bar and every time the barkeeper made new strawberry margs for someone in the joint, she'd dump the rest in my glass. Boy, I STAGGERED out of there. I'm sure this one is also good, but it can't beat that.

My margs are done in a similar way. My dad gave me a Barkeeper's Handbook and I've always used it for drink recipes.

It really is! I've been making margs this way since seeing chef John on his channel years ago. I make a lot of cocktails, and shaking until frost forms is a key technique now if shaking is called for. I'd like to see John venture into Tiki drinks!

Also use Key limes as those are what you find down south of the border 🎉

During the pandemic- I taught myself this same recipe of shaken margarita.

I like double frosting. Fine coarse salt with 1/4 of demerara sugar.

Easy way to remember: 3-2-1. That's in parts of tequila, triple sec and lime.

1. Ditch the triple sec in favour of Grand Marnier. Thank me later. 🍊😉

2. Use the best tequila you can afford, preferably an Añejo or Reposado (older). 🥃

3. Never use ice, 🧊😱 it just waters down the flavour. Put all ingredients and equipment into the freezer. Then use chunks of frozen fruit instead of ice cubes -- use whole if straight up, or blend frozen for an "ice" floe.

4. Experiment with complementary flavours of sorbet (lemon, raspberry, mango, etc.) with fresh lemon and lime juice to make your own "sweet and sour mix". Tastes SO much better.

This is my all-time favourite drink to experiment with. Using higher quality ingredients reduces the chances of any icky hangover symptoms. Sometimes I skip the sugar altogether and just blend in honey. ☺️🍹 I see some other good ideas in these comments. 😎👍
