The Oracle is a massive Oracle database. She likely "smokes" to symbolize she's operating on a "cloud" platform. The Oracle gives out cookies because databases use tracking cookies to identify users on the network...that's why she seems to be psychic and know everyone's actions (because she tricks them into eating tracking cookies). Because she utilizes cloud computing, unlike the Architect who runs on traditional database architecture, she is able to perform complex data analysis that he can not. It's really that simple.

I think the oracle and the architect are colleagues who have VERY different personalities and have spent so much time around each other that they kinda getting on each other's nerves. You did a fan theory that suggested they are working together to perfect the Matrix and make it acceptable for all the humans existing within it. The architect builds them, the Oracle finds the problems, reports back, the Architect corrects/changes the problems, and they keep on going back and forth. I strongly suspect that they just need a vacation from their work AND each other.

I had considered that the ‘Oracle’ was a reflection of the Oracle of Delphi, who’s visions came from the noxious gases permeating the cave that she resided in, and her smoking was metaphor for the conduit of that imagery.

What do candy, cookies and smoking represent? Bad habits, compulsion, inhibition, pleasure seeking, emotion. The Oracle represents emotion, she is all too human, to contrast with the Architect; cold intellectualism, unapproachable. The Oracle speaks to Neo. The Architect speaks at Neo, disinterested at first, not even trying to make himself comprehendible to Neo. The Architect and the Oracle represent a binary opposition, intellect vs emotion.
The Oracle lives in the community, surrounded by children, whereas the Architect is remote surrounded by tv screens.

The Merovingian demonstrated that food within the Matrix is code capable of manipulating the programs that ingest it. Therefore, the cookies that the Oracle bakes are code. The Oracle gives Neo a cookie to insert the code that will cause him to fall in love with Trinity and believe that he is the one. Cigarettes, are not code, per se, they represent data. So when the Oracle smokes she is inputting data to assess human behavioral responses to her stimuli. The Architect said that the variable choice made the Matrix 99% effective and the Oracle's goal is to get that last 1% to accept the Matrix programming. She is trying to do that by introducing love as a variable into the equation.

I always saw the Architect and the Oracle as complementary programs - the Architect is designed to "balance the equation, " while the Oracle is designed to "unbalance it" - in other words, to introduce the element of choice, which was discovered to be a necessary element for the functioning of the Matrix. Hence, the Architect couldn't understand choice because he wasn't programmed to, but the Oracle was.

the repetition of the number 1 and the smoking always made me think of an older processor struggling to keep working at 100% because it has a single processing thread and a lot of different tasks. The smoking sort of indicates that she is from a different time where the conventions were different as well as hinting that she may in fact be breaking down in term of whatever hardware she is actually running on

I personally think the biggest thing to take from her conversation with Neo when he relays the information from the Architect that he received, is that she refers to the Architect as "that man, " despite him clearly being a program. She does this with the big M too, "What do all men with power want, more power."

The Oracle, gives machines not just human pronouns, but even refers to their 'identities' as being partially human as well.

The subway station scene when Neo has met with the family a little bit reveal these programs develop feeling and emotions. These are high tech AI's, I think this is the reason why they have feelings, habits and the movie want to showing this.

This video actually made me think of a few questions I can’t believe I never thought about, what is the right age to be freed? Like was the IRS hacked by an 11 year old girl? How old was Cypher when he was “deceived” by Morpheus? Who else was in their 30’s when the resistance freed them?

I always got the feeling that the oracle is a manifestation of empathy from the machines. The machines understand that they have to use the humans to survive but they have to have some level of love for them. The human spark in machines that we have hardwired into them as our creations. The true interface.

My interpretation of the Oracle saying "please" in the regards to the Architect's claim of Zion being destroyed, is that because Neo chose to return to the Matrix and save Trinity -- unlike the other Ones -- and the Architect doesn't know what will happen.

The Architect can predict events because he's accrued data from the previous versions of the Matrix. He can't predict events that never happened -- the "change" the Oracle refers to.

The Oracle and Neo cant see beyond their own choices because they dont know their ramifications. The Oracle made a decision to surrender her fate to Neo by letting Smith assimilate her. And Neo chose the path of the Oracle, which led him to sacrifice himself to save Zion.

The whole Path of the One itself is a simulation meant to investigate certain emotions. In this case the human emotion of love. It is a common theme and it is essential to Neo's power. In fact everyone of his powers and major accomplishments have been tied to when he felt that particular emotion. Powers Activated by Trinity's words, discovering wireless connection after he saved her, being able to see the code in the real world after his fight with Bane, and having the strength to continue on without anything holding him back after he lost his one true love.

What I don't get is how nobody in Xion hadn't already figured out the Oracle is a program? It's pretty obvious, as she herself admits! If she were a human 'red pill', then where the hell is her physical body in the real world? Had nobody in the resistance ever bothered to ask???
