Arco Linux: My Thoughts

In this video I am going through the installation of Arco Linux. It is a great Arch-based distribution that gives you the flexibility to build your system the way you want with the Calamares installer.

I use Arcolinux BSPWM. I use it cuz its Arch thats set up nice for me and there's always Erik Dubois who is amazing.

I really like Arco. It gave me sensible defaults, but being based on Arch, it also allowed me to configure almost anything.

Edit: I'll add here that Arco is set up to run these aliases in terminal after installing and logging back in: mirror, update, upall, skel. Then the system is completely up to date.
It's good to go through .bashrc.

This is a well done distro we are fortunate to have such an easy to install arch based distro.

Arco linux is an excellent place for learning Arch linux. I didn't get to use Arco because I learned a lot from their install scripts and was able to do " The Arch way" almost right away. The hard part of Arch is you don't know what you need to install. Arco give you an example of install list that you can experiment with.

My main computer has been running Arco for about 6 months now. What keeps me with them is how much information Eric and the others put out. I only mainly use Qtile and XFCE, and their B-XFCE version keeps things simple for me with an Nvidia card. Also their color theme is nice in my opinion, but I may try the Arcolinux Hefftor spinoff tonight in a VM because he puts a lot of work into theming and defaults.

I think Arco is the best for Window managers. They give a great start-up and config for things like i3, bspwm, xmonad and stuff. I prefer KDE on Vanilla Arch over Arco, but I switched to bspwm a few days ago with Arco. And I think it would be a lot harder to learn bspwm with a vanilla arch install, and now I am already editting the keybindings and polybar.

So I think there strength are there base configs for the WMs

You missed out the "skel" command bit. This copies a new config into the old config files. I'm not sure if it would make much difference with i3 but with other distributions (e.g. icewm etc) it does make a lot of difference. I always do 1) mirrors 2) update 3) skel 4) sudo systemctl enable lightdm 5) then reboot.
For an arch based distribution arco seems the best to me!

The installer looks SO awesome, I will give it a try. I'm focusing mostly on Artix because I like the s6 init system (coming from Manjaro) but Arco really seems like it fits me better than Manjaro. I love that you have so much choice but in a compact and easy to understand installer! I just wish it would also let you choose the init system.
