Liked your video and wished you had talked through it. I think the fact that the alternator is rated at 120 amps and is as high as most trucks is proof that ford placed it in the wrong spot. It obviously is getting too hot due to exhaust and has fan shroud attached to help cool it and they oversized it amperage wise to deal with the excessive heat. Replacing it was definitely ridiculous and if they would make a way to remove the control arm support this job would be considerably easier.

I just did one yesterday on our daughters escape, It took about 4 hours total, pulling it out from the bottom. Im pretty confident I could cut that down to 3 hours next time since now I know what tools are needed and how to take all the bolts out.

My son and I did it this way. Was a real pita but we did it. The other way removing the axle would have broke other stuff and didn’t really have tools or know how. Whoever decided was good idea to put alternator under the engine needs a good kick in the nards.

I was always curious could it be possible to loosen the subframe bolts maybe engine mount to drop the alternator just enough to easily remove and install just curious I know alot of other cars I've had to do that for other parts was just curious about the escape as well

This is the third time Ive replaced this alternator because of the poor design by ford. Not only is it extremely hard to remove but because of where it's located it is always getting covered in water and gravel and salt. This is the last time I'm replacing this thing lol.

This is for left hand drive suv. There is no brake booster in the way.

i see that the engine mount was disconnected. that's a great idea. i'm wondering if you supported the engine before you did that. did you lower the engine for more clearance or did you just remove the mount to get it out of the way?

approximately how long to do this job? i'm seriously considering this one. every mechanic that i have been wants to do it "by the book" and charge 4 to 8 hours labor plus the cost of the alternator.

Geeze what happened to just putting them on the top, and on back or front of serpentine. Water pumps in the timing casing it's getting ridiculous.
