Best Graphics Cards for Video Editing Programs

Hey everyone, welcome to FilterGrade. In this video we’re covering what to look for in a graphics card for video editing. We’ll be talking about Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, Vegas Pro, Avid, and other less-common editing platforms. Some have unique hardware preferences and we’ll be going into more detail about those.

Let’s start by saying that in general, the higher-tier or more expensive graphics card you buy, the better performance you have. While it’s easy to go overkill, there is a reasonable video editing application for every graphics card on the market, including the most expensive models. Which model you need is going to depend on what kind of editing you plan on doing. Not everyone needs the best of the best, and you can run into diminishing returns in some software. We’ll try to narrow down what sort of card you should buy for different kinds of editing.

I think that this was the best video on this subject on Youtube. Thank you so much :)

My P4000 Quadro can handle pretty much everything I throw at it :) I do have 64GB of DDR4 3600 Ram and an 8 core processor and that does help too, but an older Quadro can still get the job done flawlessly if you only edit and you are not into gaming. I can still play games, but my only game is League of Legends, so I could play that with my case :))

So, where is After Effect? You mention it, but never explain it.

Hi how are you. I use davinci resolve and also use fusion and effects so what is suitable for me now from GPU and CPU

Best video I’ve seen breaking down video card requirements.

Bear in mind that GPU effects scores may be inconclusive due to the fact that benchmarks in Puget are mostly rendered with h264 GPU encoder where NVidia NVENC is substantially faster than AMD VCE. So pure GPU grunt could well be better with Native encoding using CPU, provided CPUs are similar.

Am I the only one using Vegas Pro in 2022 ? I want to use it to edit as a freelance videographer but the industry is all about premiere ...

I used an 1650RTX for Clipchamp. Would overheat and crash my computer lots. THe results were good but it got to the point where I got the blue screen of death. As soon as I get that laptop up and running again, never will I used it for video editing again. Will look at the 4000 series someday.

Thank Thank Thank you. I was almost about to drop the big bucks on the quardo 4000 because I was told by Nvidia that was adobe wants us to use. I've done some research and I understood that was not true but after you video I'm sold. Thanks a lot.

Wanna add that another reason the 6900 xt is underperforming alot is due to alot of software that is optimized for nvidia tech and not AMD. This might actually change in the future with amd advancing more

Rx 6700 xt or rtx 3060 ti with 13600k for Photoshop, video editing mainly and for games too. Which gpu is best for both.
Ps. I'm just learning editing, So suggest me accordingly.

I think the davinci resolve chart is outdated because I've seen benchmarks from hardware canucks in his 3080 ti review that RDNA 2 outperform Nvidia's GPU in resolve.

My 1070 8gb didn't speed up things much, so it was pretty much a bust for Sony Movie Studio (Vegas). I mean, it speeds it up a little bit, but it wasn't breathtaking...
