A few years back I had a relationship with a person who told me I shouldn't bother doing art because it didn't have any function except as "creative time-wasting." That person is long gone from my life, but my art is still here.

I struggle so much with the fear of sitting down to create art. I worry way too much about me failing or not living up to my standards. But a minute into putting pencil to paper all that anxiety and fear disappear and I lose time. We all need to be reminded why we started in the first place, because we enjoy the process or it relaxes us. Lovely video and a much needed reminder for me to fall in love with the process :).

Thank you so much for sharing this perspective!! We can get so concerned about the “uselessness” of some things and forget that they still serve a great purpose. I appreciate your videos and your art!

I used to think my art sucked because I didn't have a topic like most artists pick one thing and stick to that (i.e., landscape, portrait or media I paint it all)... I paint with watercolor, soft pastel, acrylics, charcoal and I sculpt, I make dolls, I quilt, crochet and I also love to craft I make gnomes, floral arrangements, wreaths, trinket trays etc. But looking back at the 100's of paintings I have done, I see now how I do have a style and it is now noticeable. I never saw it before until I had a facebook photo album because you can see everything at once and you can see trends in my paintings that let u know they are mine.

Funny story - I went to the animation forum in another city and took my hand sized notebook with me, where i write all my ideas and draw my OCs. I have a big story in my head, and these are my comfort characters as people call it because they have been with me since middleschool. So i took the notebook, and despite that, it started losing pages, i was hoping to reparing it in my hotel. Didn't happen, didnt have time. I came home and started reassembling notebook pages for a repair. I couldn't find one page anywhere, which had my main OC portrait study. I went through all my possessions and luckily found it. And i just gotta say, i never kissed any of my art so much as I kissed that little note with my OC portraits. We should kiss our art more, ya know wha im saying?

Fiquei viúva há uns três meses atrás e seus vídeos tem me incentivado a voltar a fazer algo que sempre gostei: desenhar pelo prazer de desenhar, sem esperar nada além disso. Obrigada!

Just what I needed to hear today! I need to stop playing "perfectionist" with my art and enjoy the process more. Love your art, and Twiggy! ❤

The main thing that differs art from design is that design has a purpose, a use. Art doesn't. Art is useless, but we love it. So why do we put such high demands on it, ourselves and our own art?
Is it because we want to give the best and the most beautiful expression to the art we make? Maybe. But who are we to decide that? The art that comes out of us, whatever expression it takes, is the art expressing itself. I don't really think we have a control over that. So we might just let it go, and just make art and open up the gate for it to take on whatever expression it wants.
What is it that stops us from doing that? Ego.
So just drop your ego and create!
The only art that has "failed" is the art that never gets created at all.
