Foreigners can go to the Philippines on a tourist visa and stay for 3 years, just pay for visa extensions, after 3 years hop on the plane and back again, start the 3 year program again, as a tourist there's no income requirement. I live on less than $500 on a midsized city with malls, hospitals, seaport and airport, my maid costs $80 a month, she takes care of cleaning, laundry and washing dishes.

Portugal was the first county that I have ever visited outside of the USA. I loved it there and I’m happy to see it make the top of this list.

I have been to Mauritius (3 times), Thailand (4 times), Philippines (twice), Greece (3 times), Malaysia (5 times) and Portugal once. Although Malaysia is my first choice but I would be happy to retire in the other places that are on the list which I have visited. But I am surprised Spain or Indonesia were not on the list though

Portugal is a Paradise. The oldest country in Europe, full of history (Medieval villages and castles, historical towns, UNESCO heritage sites, Palaces...and a lot of Templar sites), beautiful beaches, a great gastronomy, friendly people, multi-racial and multicultural, the second language is English, free schools, and free public health (14º best system in Europe), the 3rd safest country in the world (Global Peace Index). You are welcome in Portugal.

Retirement could be no easy if you didn't save enough before retiring. I retired at 64 and i saved $1.9million over the years of my investment and i'm grateful to God that at least i retired in good health.

The humidity in south Asian countries is so high and generally terrible air quality that would knock them all off my list unfortunately. At least I can visit whenever....My relatives live in Manila and the traffic is awful, water supply issues, floods and general dirtiness. And lots of poor people, very polarizing class system. Peace index 2020 places it even worse than chaotic Usa. Food is hit and miss and inexpensive. Beef is generally terrible quality unless you go to an upscale restaurant. South Asia in general not for me.
