Yes, the monthly income requirement for Portugal is quite low but you also need to prove a certain amount in savings. Many want to retire abroad so they can actually create savings. Not everyone is getting 2-3000 for social security as some countries seem to think all Americans are wealthy.

There are always pros and cons no matter where we live. Life is short to do the things we don't love doing but life is very precious. We came to this world barehanded and we go back with nothing. No matter how much we make, it will never be enough. Be mindful and be happy. Peace out from a genocide survivor under Khmer Rouge in the 70s!

Mauritius sounds like the best for me. Not taxable, island nation, and ez requirements for a pensioner. The only thing is that you have to be 50 years old but I here they have a Premium visa for those that can make money outside the country.

Indonesia, same as Malaysia, recently changed the retirement visa requirements. It used to be well within my budget and it wasn't previously dependent on already drawing a pension from your home' country. When I start receiving my pension, I wont have a hope of meeting the requirements, which is so heartbreaking, as I have spent many happy years there and I've invested plenty of money into the Indo' economy over the years. I could easily live there on my actual but low pension' income.

Keep in mind...if you got the right kind of money the requirements don't really apply to you.

I’d love to retire early in the mountains somewhere… I’m thinking somewhere in Europe, away from all this modern technology madness, where I can enjoy fresh air, simple life and lots of gardening. I’m thinking stress free. Doubt I’ll need super fancy health care if I lead a stress free life. I’m liking Italy, Greece, Serbia and Ireland so far…

It also depends if you’re single or not? If you’re single, you won’t want to live in some of these countries.
If you’re married, it doesn’t matter where you live.

Cambodia has the easiest visa in SE Asia and it's cheap as dirt and they accept usd pretty much everywhere. People are friendly, rent is super cheap for nice sized & we'll equipped apartments. Food isn't the best, infrastructure is on park with the Philippines.

I decided two years ago to find lawyers to go for dual Italian citizenship. They are now on the verge of translating all the non-Italian documents for my case. Don't know when it will happen but I am about 6 months out from the 2 years give or take. Although I have a lot of money in the bank, my regular Soc. Sec. is too low for Italy. They want to see PENSIONS, not income from investments. People get different answers about this, too! So glad I opted to spend the money on lawyers!

Seriously, most retirees that are watching YouTube are looking for affordable places. Ecuador, exico, and country’s as such.

Buenos Aires Argentina didn't make your list, I lived in Buenos Aires Argentina for 10 years and am in Buenos Aires now. You can live a very comfortable lifestyle here for around 1500 to 2000 dollars a month and Buenos Aires is a truly wonderful international city that is clean and safe it is like living in Paris, France New York City and Washington DC 😀.

Spain doesn"t just have a golden visa scheme .They also offer a non lucrative retirement visa, so this is untrue

People overlook healthcare. The Portuguese health service is bad, mainly due to its inability to attract doctors. Their private healthcare system is expensive. Their private health insurance is expensive (at least to a British person) and does not cover everything. Over the counter medicines (and hygiene products generally) are shockingly expensive.Their ageing population is largely left to rot. The passivity of the Portuguese people in the face of such cynical neglect is frankly surprising. None of this shows any signs of changing soon.
