Why The Fujifilm X-T2 is Still a Great Camera

I have used a lot of digital cameras over the years, from all of the most common manufacturers. Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm, Lumix, etc... To be fair, they have all been fantastic in their own ways and I am not really that loyal to any one specific brand. I have shot Fuji pretty exclusively for the last 3 years or so though, and I have to say I am unlikely to switch in the near-term.

The X-T2, I think, was a particular notable entry in their camera lineup and is still a fantastic choice even today. It may be a six year-old camera now, but I am still using it regularly.

It's hard to beat fujifilm for their jpeg files and fantastic color profiles that are just so handy for both photo and video.

In this video, I talk a little bit about why I think if you are in the market for a camera, it might make sense for you to purchase an older model, like the X-T2, instead of something newer.

Buying 4+ year old flagship camera's has been my strategy as well. Bought a 2nd hand X-T1 late 2018 and still love that 8 year old camera! This week got a 2nd hand good as new X-H1 with grip and 3x Fuji batteries, with crazy low shuttercount, for a steal at 675 Euro. For many years now, cam tech has advanced to a point where I don't feel I need the latest and greatest cam's to produce stunning photo's. Wonderful times! :)

I’m still rocking an X-T2 in 2022. It’s still a great camera.

An excellent and honest assessment of this remarkable camera. The highest accolade I could give, in my estimation, is that it does the job: efficiently, reliably and faultlessly in every respect. The prints I get from this camera and my printer are astonishing. I’m just an amateur photographer but I’ve enjoyed Canon and Nikon cameras but Fujifilm seems to offer that extra in terms of glass and sensors.

I also have the X-T2. I used it for several years (alongside an X-H1) as a photojournalist. Now I'm retired, and it's still used regularly either to shoot my video, or host some vintage lenses.

I agree with everything you said. I bought the X-T1 and X-T2 when they were released and I still love and use them. Upgrading to newer Fuji bodies gives no benefit unless you shoot video, which I do not. Image quality is amazing with any of their lenses.

4 years ago I picked up a used X-T2 for use as a stopgap camera to use until it dies. Outside of a water leak in heavy rain that results in a fried SD card in Slot 1, it’s doing just fine for my uses. And now I just don’t go out in that degree of precipitation solving the issue. Some of my favorite glass for the system is not weather sealed so the point is virtually moot anyway. As the updated bodies and sensors are coming online, it’s good to know that really good options lie ahead of course, yet at the same time simply be content with what’s in hand and roll with it.

Another satisfied T2 user. My 3rd Fuji body I have owned, and I see no reason to progress any further. I Kept a X-E1 around as a backup, that one still a phenomenal little shooter. Lighter, less complicated, easy on batts. Even 10 MP makes a printed image 30 X 20 or so that is wonderful.

I was fighting for a canon 90d, I like storms and sport but for 350 euros I got a XT2, it is an ideal machine for my uses, only for my telephoto lenses like 600mm I lose 50 due to the 1.5x crop. Good video!

I have the X-T2 and X-H1, both glorious machines. Love the IBIS in the H1 but the design, 100% manual dials and form factor of the T2 make you love it. I've definitely used multiple batteries in a camera but there are good pro 3rd party ones a d they don't weigh much, or the battery grips are cheap too and give a performance advantage too

I just bought the 35mm f/2 for my XT-2. Great combo sizewise.

I am still currently shooting with my X-T2 in 2024, as a wedding and lifestyle photographer. It has its issues with age and missing some photos, but I push this camera all the time and still going. I would love to upgrade though.

Still got my X-T2 still serves me well. If I buy a camera for $1500-$2000 I'd expect 10 years of use.

Thank you so much for this review, I'm trying to decide what video camera to get for my travel pages and don't really understand all the camera lingo alot of the time so I just get confused and see big £ signs and don't know what I'm doing 😄 this review is great I just need to know if it will do what I need, without me spending a ton of money xx

I have both a Fuji X-T2 and a Panasonic FZ82 as a bridge camera. Shooting with the X-T2 is fun, using the FZ82 feels like doing a job. I think Fuji management doesn't realize how many people do like these physical buttons.

Battery life is owkey-ish if you're only using the viewfinder. Then you should be able to shoot around 300 pictures with one battery.

I bought my X-T2 back in 2018 when there was a cashback action, but I'll probably upgrade to the recently announced X-T5. It has IBIS, a new processor, better autofocus and a higher resolution which me anbles to crop more in my pictures. And of course also because my X-T2 is almost beaten to death because I -used- abused it so many times.
