#3 - How is energy generated and how do we use it? - TurtleTalks
Показать описание
Monica Laurence: What is energy?
Rick Thompson: At its core it's really a transference of power and part of a system. For me energy really is transferring it into electric power that we can consume. And in terms of why we're here to discuss it, particularly clean or renewable electric power.
Dawn Lippert: Anything that moves, anything that turns on, all requires energy and as we have more and more things in the world that move, more and more, and as we go farther to get places and as we have more and more things that turn on, to those I sort of divide energy into the categories of things that move us and things that power up.
Emilee Pierce: I think you could even think about it as some form or basic way which is if you think about being a kid in elementary school when you were first learning how the world worked, one of the things you were first taught about was photosynthesis. The fact that plants get their energy from the sun.
Human beings wanted to be able to harness that same power, but as we progressed forward and had discovered this incredible thing, which was that heat created energy and that there were different sources of it, whether it was oil that was buried deep, deep, deep in the earth or whether it was coal, it allowed us to create the world that we live in today. Looking back and thinking about the original source that provided it and seeing if we can harness some of the more natural existing things than just the ones that we created.
