Excellent video, Dominique. I am a stay-at-home mom/grandmother and I think your advice applies well to me too. Having a classy mindset as we work from, and here at home is important because 1.) we teach our children these good habits, 2.) we demonstrate that home-keeping is not a drudge, but an essential part of the culture, and 3.) we demonstrate a respect for ourselves and that encourages respect from others.

I've been at my "career" since 2000. Everything you've listed is appropriate, legitimate, and valuable. (I completely agree with some other comments, this would be a great video for H.S. and college students, women heading back to the work force, etc.) My only addition would be to learn the names, and appreciate those who seemingly make your job easier (for example, as a teacher...the secretaries and custodians are EQUAL, and should be appreciated and valued)...respect is earned, you must see the value in those around you, and how it can not only make your day easier, but more enjoyable. Thanks for another great video!

As a HR professional I agreed with everything you stated. My advice is as follows:
1. Never waste time at work, do your best to get the job done. If you need assistance ask.
2. Get confirmation always when you have completed a very important project. There are time of miscommunication or people claiming they didn't get your call or email. This show you are on top of things.
3. Complete the project you hate the most. Then you could move on to better things.
4. If you can't stay late to complete your work, then come early.
5. People do notice a person of work ethics.
6. Use a planner or to do list. Set dead lines. And only put down 3 top things to tackle a day. Everything will fall into play.

Thank you so much for this advice Dominique! This came just at the right time for me. I had a very abusive childhood and I lost my voice - I became a "hidden" child so to speak. It's carried over into my adult life and I'm still quiet and a chronic "low talker." I'm better now (mentally and emotionally), but it was hard after having been screamed at, hit, and told to "shut-up" (among other things) by those who were supposed to care about me. It's hard to feel like one's opinion matters (especially at work)...and yet I want to speak up many times. So thank you - thank you for this reminder that my voice matters too.

Also I just wanted to add that I so admire you and the way you present yourself - your poise, professionalism, intelligence, and heart radiates through the screen. It's so nice to have another woman to look up to (even if it's on Youtube), as I never had that in "real" life. Yes - your voice matters too - and your content! It has a tangible, positive effect on the world :-) Thanks again.

Thanks for the suggestion about being interrupted. I’m a stay-at-home mom who hasn’t been in the workplace for 29 years. Recently I’ve begun to volunteer in a professional environment and have been surprised by how often I’m interrupted by adults. I know how to handle it with my kids but wasn’t quite sure what to say to an adult without sounding condescending or whiny.

Another tip I've learned over my career: Don't be the employee that is constantly complaining to your manager/supervisor about problems or people.
A) Only escalate issues you absolutely need Management's assistance with because you can't handle it on your own.
B) When you bring the problem forward to Management, have possible solutions ready.
C) Be ready for the possibility that your Manager may decide to handle the situation differently than you expected, and handle this with grace.

Also, never underestimate the power of networking and cultivating relationships with people in your industry...and even beyond. Take time to support colleagues. Talk positively about other people's work (only if sincere!). Lift other people up and mentor when you have the opportunity!

Thanks, Dominique!

Love this video. My former boss used to say "don't put anything on social media or in an email that you wouldn't want on the front page of the newspaper." Your tips are great.

What an awesome video!! An idea for another video might be showing us your planning system - how do you formulate goals, how do you plan your projects (personal and work), and how you plan your day to day - do you use a calendar, do you follow a productivity system? -- Thanks for this video - it was superb as always!

Wonderful! One thing that’s greatly helped me is to reach a hand back and help pull someone up. Mentoring a young lady at my job has been invaluable! It sparked joy for me as I was feeling that I had taken my career as far as I could in my last year before I retire. Mentoring a bright, curious, motivated colleague in the clerical pool elevated her to management, opens up unlimited options for her future, puts her on an even level oath with my peers towards a future opening and has helped me build a bench/succession plan as I consciously downshift to leave and retire. Of course we needed supervisor approval, but I presented a monthly goals/met plan for the process and it’s a win-win for everyone and the community we serve. It could take 8-12 months to post my position when I leave and this builds a fill-in person so no one is left in the lurch when I waltz out the door to my next chapter! Thanks Dominque, I recently found your channel and love it! 💖

Workplace Stand-Out...you certainly nailed it. These are things my mother taught me many many moons ago. These are things I have taught my children and now teaching my grandchildren. A person no matter what they do or where they are in life should stand-out to be the best they can be. Today, after many years working in diverse careers I wake up, put myself together and have a smile in my attitude, kind words to share, ready to help, will give opinions when needed, will take advice from others and enjoy my day with all my co-workers. Thank you for sharing and may you continue to share! Blessing to you too!

Very professional intro! I have not missed any of your videos. Thank you for your kind and wise advice.
A video on organizing office space would inspire many of us to schedule a project at work and get our space ready for the new financial year. I would love to hear your tips. Have a blessed Labor Day weekend

Perfect advice Dominique especially for social media and younger professionals!! Sadly bullying and racism is another issue that many women encounter and needs to be addressed in a future video. Be positive, speak out and respect yourself and your own self-worth. Cheers.

All great advice, especially for young people entering the work force for the first time. I would also include on there being a team player. SO many times I have found that when coworkers are put into small groups to brainstorm or develop policies and plans, it's always the same 2 people that end up doing the bulk of the work, while the others either goof off, answer phone calls/emails, take 30 min bathroom or smoke breaks, etc. And on the flip side, if you are a take charge person and are one of the 2 people doing the bulk of the work, make sure you delegate and solicit input from everyone in the group and try to get the rest involved in decision making. I know for me, it was always easier if I just did something myself because then I knew it was done properly. But that behavior didn't allow room for others to contribute, so that was a skill I needed to develop in myself.
