Just purchased the Shapeoko 5... with the VFD. Big price point, I know, but with the $750+ and the support and the amount of time I will be running it plus the lower decibels, I feel it will be worth it to me. Thank you, Andy, for your content!

As a CNC machinist, seeing these types of changes in the desktop market is awesome. No more spending 40k+ for a decent machine. Great video!

Ball screws is one of several reasons I bought my ShopSabre. I love seeing smaller machines bring industrial components to market. If I were looking, this would be the first on my list.

My dad bought one for us. And we have had nothing but problems with it. Since we bought it at first, we had to switch the X. And y access motors in order to get to work properly. And even before that, there was little black screws that were falling out and I just found one up there. The other day when I first started a job, it was on the floor and then the router gave me out on us after just about 6 to 7 hours of work time. Maybe just a little more.

You hit it exactly Andy. As a complete novice, I went with 1F not only for the ball screws but the ease of setup as well. As for the buffet style of ordering, I liked that I could buy the machine then add what I wanted/needed. I was also sold on Vectric Vcarve which I got through 1F at a discount. All in to get started, I was just under 3K for my 1F Woodworker and Vcarve Pro. I just do this as a hobby. Not really looking to build a business like you are.

I have a Onefinity and it’s amazing runs so smooth and easy to upgrade if you want to make it wider and easy to setup.

I have the Shapeoko 3 XXL for going on 3 years now right after I bought it they came out will all the new models and upgrades. with that being said I have paid off what I have spent to buy the CNC and I am still making money with it as a hobby some times bigger is not always needed. I guess its just how you look at it and if its is a business or a hobby. Thank you for your videos I lok forward to all your insight you do!

Great video! I'm glad you took the time to make it. When I saw the release, I thought about making a video, but honestly I just don't have any experience with Shapeoko to begin with. I think that gives you a better place to talk from. I think its just human nature to believe that the decision someone made with their money is the "best" decision. I fully agree that competition is a good thing and makes for more capable products that we get to enjoy. Maybe one day I'll get a spindle, but until then I'll keep screwing the dead routers to the wall lol.

Keep up the awesome work!

Soon you will be able to add automatic tool change to your table using your current VFD spindle at a fraction of the cost of an ATC spindle the Rapid Change tool racks will begin shipping July 4th 2023 if your interested I will get you one for review...

I own a Shapeoko Pro and I love it! That being said it took me nearly 4 months to get it working. The machine kept, what I call, timing out. The static in the room kept resetting the machine. While this was extremely frustrating, the even more frustrating experience was the Carbide 3d support staff. Getting anyone to answer a phone was like pulling teeth with NO Novocain! The constant emails back and forth just delayed the time it took to get the machine working. Finally, I gave up on getting a resolution from Carbide 3d. I have a good friend that is literally a "rocket scientist" with several Phd's come look at the machine and my shop. After 1 night he figured out the problem.

My first CNC was a shapeoko. Then I bought an Onefinity and the user experience is such an improvement. Shapeoko is forever trying to catch up. I dont have the experience with the new shapeoko to say if they have finally made a machine that stacks up to the onefinity, but it would surprise me.

All I can say right now is I’m super happy with my Shapeoko 4 xxl I bought a few years ago with the Dewalt palm Route, the only real problem I’m having is I don’t use it enough to get good at or comfortable with it. Other than that I’m still as happy as a tornado in a trailer park with my machine, lol 😂 I’ve done a few small upgrades to my Shapeoko like belt covers which really helped a lot with sawdust, my next upgrade will definitely be a new spindle. I’m just a garage hobbyist not a professional. Thanks for the video and thanks for not trying to sell the new Shapeoko 5, and thanks for only giving a honest opinion comparing all the models.

As someone who has run 5 Shapeoko belt driven machines, they work awesome and I have not had an issue I didn't cause myself. That said my SO5 Pro is on order with a spindle. We have a Shapeoko Pro at work and it continues to make parts for scientific experiments frequently. No reason to upgrade it as it fits our needs perfect.

As far as no machine changing the market more than the Onefinity, I kinda agree, but with the caveat that you go from after the release of the Shapeoko 3. It changed the market at it's time more than the OF did at it's release.

I completely agree that the router is the limiting factor. I would bog and stall the router before the motion system hit it's limitations.

One thing that is both the best aspect and the least talked about for the Shapeoko is the hybrid bed. With the structure/strength it adds and legitimately the best workholding as standard equipment of any non-vacuum table CNC router, it is easily the most important aspect. I had a Shapeoko 3 that I added an extrusion bed to. It was better that the SO3 factory wasteboard, but the hybrid bed is vastly superior to even that upgrade.

I've got a 4x4 Shapeoko 5 Pro coming in April with the VFD. It will do what I need to do and doesn't need a forklift to move. It has the most for $$$ and free shipping to Canada.

I bought the shapeoko5 4x4 Because I need the ability to cut up out cabinet parts from 4x8 sheets of plywood and also because this will be my third shapeoko starting with the3 and then the 4 and now the 5, my first shapeoko was bought in 2017 In all of those years I have not had a router failure

I have been using my Shapeoko 3 XXL for years now and have Loved it! My very first carve was a 3d police badge that took the entire table and 23hrs on the finish cut. But as you mentioned a palm router just isn't reliable enough. I've had 3 failures (not all the same brand), which is frustrating if it happens 12 hours into a 16 hour carve. I plan on buying the new Pro 5 and the VFD spindle and have no hesitation in doing so. I did notice someone commented about dust, and all I can say is, I use a Suck It dust boot and a Grizzly 2hp dust collector and have pretty much 0 dust. Thanks for the Video!

CNC companies believe their product is better for “X, Y, and Z reason” 😂
