After you return the rental equipment keep the receipt. They will claim you didn't return it. Also keep the receipt for the equipment you purchase to use on their network. They will also later claim it is theirs and you are renting it even if they never provided the same model.

As much as I hated giving xfinity more money, I had no choice. We kept getting close to our data limit and finally we went over it one month. My option was to add unlimited for $30 or pay $25 for their xfi gatway. The gateway is really strong and I no longer need a wifi-mesh network to get wifi all over the house. I really appreciate you touching upon this because that was my case.

I appreciate you! I literally changed my service with xfinity yesterday and asked how to choose a device on my own. This extra info you are sharing is so invaluable. Thank you so much!

Thanks Michael! When I switched to Xfinity I made sure to have my own modem-router combo and a Roku before I turned on their service. A lot of homework and research but it was well worth it. I'm glad you did this video to get the word out to people that you don't have to be held hostage to a monthly equipment fee. The only thing I miss is having a DVR available. If you have any suggestions I would be interested in knowing. 🤔😃

Thanks Michael for tips for buy your own “BYO” equipment to avoid fees. Another money saving 💴 tip is to drop cable boxes that providers are charging per month and get devices such as Roku, Amazon Fire and Apple TV. My cable company Frontier is dropping cable tv and encouraging customers to sign up for Youtube Tv.

Michael, your reommendation of a modem/router combo is good for beginners that want to just plug it in and it work. However, if you live in a home with over 1000 sq. ft, I would recommend getting a WIFI Mesh system. Most Mesh systems are normally set to router mode by default, so the modem itself doesnt need to have a router with it if you already have a mesh system. A mesh system will work with a modem/wifi combo, but that adds an extra network layer and, if you don't turn off the WiFi of the modem/router combo, you will get unneeded extra WiFi noise.

Pro tip- if you are under a contract and want to cancel account without paying early termination fees, you can simply change your contractual deal to non- contractual deal first and then cancel your account. This way you would not be charged any early termination fee.

Hope i help someone 😃

Yep!
Worked for me.
I'd suggest NOT buying a used one though.
Once I bought a new one from Walmart, I was good to go

Great video. Just a tip to always be on promos for internet. I always set a reminder on my phone to call a month before my promo ends to get on a new one. I had my own equipment but this last promo I got had the equipment and unlimited internet included for free for a year. I will note that the deal was actually only available through the website when I logged into my account. When I called the representative said they didn't see that promo on their side. When this ends I'll see what promos they have or I might have to purchase new equipment as my modem and router is a few years old now.

I don't get charged an "extra" equipment fee with Google Fiber and the service and hardware have been flawless.

Here in Florida with all of the lightning strikes that occur I found it better to rent so I can get a replacement literally whenever I want

The issues I've noticed over time are related to firmware updates. The updates with Xfinity equipment are automatic, but I had a lot of problems with my own setups. The result was intermittent internet connectivity issues and other problems. This was a real pain! Downloading firmware updates on the side are not always easy.

Very useful information. New apartment complexes are built with fiber only, there are no cable, so you have to rent a fiber modem from the provider as fiber modems are not available for customer purchase.

It sounds like a good idea, but setting up your own cable modem router can be a bit tricky if you're not technically inclined. Also, the upfront costs of a cable modem router that supports the speed of the very fast Internet service you got from Comcast can be quite high, for example, the Arris G36 is $325 and the Netgear CAX80 is $442.

THANK YOU so much. I finally got off my procrastinating behind and ordered a gateway to end the $14 payments. I really appreciated your spreadsheet. I doublechecked the compatibility on Xfinity and found a winner! Bought refurbished to get a bigger discount. Cross your fingers! Ha ha. I will donate to the link on the subscription. Thank you!

I'm in IT and have both rented and owned equipment. I went back to renting. This video is fine and all and yes, you can buy an acceptable modem/router for their services and be perfectly fine.

However: if ANYTHING goes wrong and I mean ANYTHING they will just chalk it up to being a problem on your end and or your router/modems problem! Also, good luck if you aren't tech savvy in theses situations! Think of it as insurance paying the monthly equipment fee PLUS after a year or 2 they come out with newer and better equipment. You just have to poke them a bit (I just did that with the new X1!) to get them as they typically don't just send them out.

I would recommend people do their research and determine how handy they are instead of just buying their own equipment and thinking they are sticking it to the big corps. Either way good luck. I'm off to do battle with AT&T for a new 5g Microcell tower.

I've paid for Xfinity internet for the past five years, I pay for 100mbps and it's never above 30mbps unless I call and complain, then it's around 100mbps for a day or 2, and back to 30. I've called about this no less than a dozen times over the past 2 years... and the last two times they scheduled a technician to come out where I had to be home for a 2-3 hour window, and both times the technician didn't show up, didn't call, didn't care. Comcast is the most awful atrocity of customer service on the planet.
