President Abraham Lincoln at the end of the Civil War had realized how the robber barons had become filthy rich from supplying both the Union and the Confederacy. He was concerned that they'd consolidate the wealth into their own hands. this note, Lincoln wrote to his secretary ;

There was a segment about providing high speed internet to Americans. If politicians REALLY wanted to improve the internet provided to their constituents they'd go after these borderline monopolies that are the ISPs, the customer service and quality of the internet are impacted too much due to the ISPs being able to do whatever they want. They too often don't fix major problems customers have, charge too much, and have completely unreasonable wait times when you call. This is because they know due to backroom dealing that the customers have little to no option over what company they get their internet from.
