This happens a lot with people with untreated ADHD. Or people who haven't been diagnosed yet.

I was diagnosed with dysthymia in 1993.
My mother was a straight-up narcissist. Growing up was like living in a war-zone. There simply was only hell.
I’m 1996, I decided to follow my therapist’s advice and go on a SSRI. I stayed on it for two years. It helped tremendously. What else helped was to eventually go 100% no contact with my parents. Life is good now. Sometimes it isn’t just one thing that is wrong. Healing is a process. I love my life now. ❤

I've been diagnosed with dysthymia (PDD) and major depressive disorder, and my psychiatrist at the time explained it by saying my baseline mood (so when you're not feeling any particular emotion, just neutral) is just lower than the average person's (think ____ vs and when I go through periods of MDD, it just dips down even lower. I've been depressed since I was 11, with signs appearing even younger, and I'm 25 now :^)

So very thankful to be out of that season of my life. I have my positive emotions back. I remember the first time i felt spontaneous joy on a hike in the woods. I was smiling so big and started skipping like i was 6 again.

This makes me want to cry. I have always like that and I've had so many diagnosis. I'm 55yrs now and just been told I have ADHD. It's sad because I wonder if I had been treated correctly what My life would be like now.

I was diagnosed with this and your explanation has made me actually think it fits.

It’s very interesting that I realized when I was first diagnosed with depression in 2017, that I had already spent four years in a state of occasionally feeling happy, but the happiness being hollow, instead of the fullness of happiness I used to experience. I’ve been up and down levels of depression depending on my circumstances and treatment ever since, but only this year after more than a solid year on medication started occasionally feeling that really full, real happiness again.

This was great. Thank you, Dr. Marks. I enjoyed reading the comments. One of the rare times I don’t feel like the Lone Ranger.

Because the energy is still not there—making me feel like a misfit in my own life. An SSRI and over 2 years of weekly therapy has brought cognitive relief. So there is hope for the younger generations.

The forms of treatment available now, like CBT, and whatever my psychologist does help a lot.

It’s expensive but the difference in how I experience life is worth more than luxuries like diamonds or gold.

That last comment is helpful--I was just about to ask what the difference between dysthymia and PDD was because I got diagnosed in January 2022 and they sounded so similar xD. Good to know it has a different term, I can do more research that way

Yep, this is almost me, but Throw in a few more diagnoses. Basically I've been describing my depression as 'Relapsing Depression' my Whole life, so the new terminology does help bring me a bit of comfort in the ways of how we are progressing in diagnosing the Different types of depression.

I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder when I was 12 by my psychologist, but I think I identity more with dysmithia as I’ve been experiencing these symptoms for years

I didn’t know I had this until I had a brain haemorrhage. Because I don’t know what it feels like to feel good i’m struggling to recover for years now.

Thank you, Dr Marks. Speaking as someone with 300.4, I appreciate your explanation of the new PDD. Why did they change the name, I wonder? It’s still the same code in the DSM-5.

I was diagnosed with dysthymia two years ago and have it porblably since my early teen years. Right now I feel like I'm in a phase of double depression. I took Citaloprame for about 11 years and we tried to switch over to Sertraline. Which was a huge mistake and I almost had to go to the hospital. Now I'm on Esciatloprame since 4 weeks and since one week my mental health is deteriorating again. My heartrate is at 110 at it's lowest point. I'm afraid that nothing will help me.

This video is making me feel anxious as someone diagnosed with depression that can remember feeling good way before 3 years ago. If that makes you feel like a fraud, you're not alone
