We use both of these words when we talk about what we did in the past, but what we are no longer doing now, or about what happened in the past, but what is not happening now. In some cases, both "used to" and "would" can be used in the same sentence, and in other cases only "used to".

But I have one question .
What is the difference between using past tense and used to?
From your example 1 . We used to have a boat. 2.We had a boat.
I understand the meaning of used to.
But past simple uses for an action that completes in the past . I mean it's finished action.
