80-10-10 fruitarianism - good or bad?

Here's what I think about the 80-10-10 diet, which incorporates almost exclusively high amounts of fruit.

30 bananas are actually 40 grams of protein..a woman just needs 46 grams per day on average.. Just add some spinach.. easy done

Im not an 801010-er but im fairly close to it, but essentially excess fat and protein slow the digestion of sugars in fruits causing them to go rancid. Limiting the intake of fat and protein to about 15-20% in my opinion will limit the digestion problems. I do eat a ton of fruit because i like it but i generally use a raw vegan protein powder to up my percentage. I dont depend on fruit religiously though.

 Someone has no doubt already said this; but does anyone consider the fact that there was a time when man didn't know how to throw a spear or bash with a club or light a fire when considering what our diets may of consisted of? I dare anyone to try and catch any wild animal they can think of and then rip it open with their bare hands and eat it. Let me know how that turns out, then I'll be convinced that man should be omnivorous.

811 can be applied to macros in general ..I eat high carb cooked and raw ..sometimes 811 may happen over a weeks span if I have barely any protein one day and a lot another. Think you misunderstood what 811 is all about.

Karla: The glycemic load is more important to look at than the glycemic index. Watermelon for example has a high glycemic indes of around 71. Yet, because of it being mostly water with a low percentage of carbs, its glycemic load is only around 8. Not so bad to eat a serving or two of watermelon a day.

It's like science or a religion it's not just a diet, it's a way of life, a belief, it's a way to enjoy life. I can accept that people live well on terrible nutritional consumption but I also realize that their children suffer from it more than they do themselves. I'm just out here day and night reading researching on the ball cuz i got the energy to be and because I am whole heartedly searching for people to disprove me so i can better my understanding on what is optimal..

kwashiorkor is the scientific term for protein deficiency with sufficient caloric intake.

I didn't develop kwashiorkor, but I did become protein deficient or deficient in certain amino acids which has been a major contributing factor to severe health problems and grief that I've had to put a fair bit of effort into correcting through using animal based proteins.

I learned the hard way that a 100% plant diet is not healthy for me.

I recently saw a video with a woman who cured her own cancer on raw foods and she said within the first 4 weeks on a raw food diet, she peed out some lessened gall stones. Try eating that clean a few weeks, perhaps it will fix it for you.

I'm NOT sure why PEOPLE are so UPSET with what YURI stated?! He gave you his thoughts on the 80-10-10 Fruitarian Diet and SPECIFICALLY STATED that YOU CAN CHOOSE WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU. He does what is best for him and he gave a wide range of scenarios explaining how people eat differently spending where they live. SO WHAT IS EVERYONE UPSET ABOUT? YOU GOT AN OPINION, JUST WHAT YOU WANTED BUT OBVIOUS NOT WHAT YOU WANTED TO HEAR! You do what you want just like you have ALL along and quit complaining

And from what I read the reason they set it as 5% was to be safe, from their studies they found we only required 2.5% of our calories from protein.

Hi Chrisisms.You'll notice that I only spoke of my own personal body's needs...not about those needs transfering to everyone else...which is why I say "different foods for different needs".
I didnt say that the 80/10/10 high fruit diet would be bad in general.

So there's really no need to get so defensive or claim that I'm lying when I say I needed to change the make up of my diet in order to correct the health problems I have...which includes problems with synthesising certain amino acids.

80 10 10 includes eating large amounts of leafy greens it is by no means fruit at the exclusion of veggies and greens which are great sources of amino acids. Quite a few doctors regardless of whether they promote 80 10 10/whole plant foods or starch based diets have said that an 80 10 10 caloro-nutrient ratio is best for human performance, so carbs 80% Fat 10% and Protein under 10% of calories. after years of research it seems to me that the insistence on high protein is very over blown

he didnt said not to eat animals either.. my opinion is humans can consume meat and be healthy, my grandfather who lived in the mountain province for most of his life hunt animals and eat plant base food to survive... and he never got sick and never been to hospital ever..

Yuri: it looks like the folks that are mainly disagreeing are very active in exercising. They burn a lot more carbs. So they most likely can take the higher input of carbs that many fruits provide. Those of us that are not so active will not be so well served by eating a lot of fruits with a high glycemic load. If you body needs the carbs due to a lot of activity, fruit is one of the best ways to get it. If not so active, you may want to eat bananas more sparingly.

The arguments put forth are wrong...
He even got the definition of 80 10 10 wrong (it's not 80% fruits, 10% ..., etc.
It is 80% of your daily calories from carbohydrates, 10 % from fat, 10 % from protein).
Won't be seeing any other of his vids.

You can't say that people are meant to eat meat just because of the structure of their teeth. Moreover, people began in Africa. The body, specifically the digestive system, is structured more for fruit and plants due to the original origins of mankind. After spreading out to other parts of the globe, mankind adapted. But the gut structure remains intact. Meat is not what humans were born to digest. Eating meat is an adaptation based on difficulty in raising crops, crop plagues such as locusts, etc., drought, difficulty owning sufficient arable land to farm, wars, and greed.

I just finished reading 80/10/10. More than 10% protein is recommended when young and growing, or during injury and repair. Protein can be sourced from green leafy vegetables, hemp and flax seeds, dried apricots, prunes etc. This book recommends to start your day with fruit- eat as much as you want. To snack on a few nuts and seeds (watch fat). Finish with a large green salad + low fat cooked vegan meal (opt). This book is backed up with professional research written by a fit and healthy Doc!
