In a conversation between Zuby and the Step it Up Podcast hosts, they delve into the psychological dynamics surrounding body positivity, particularly in the context of gender differences and the impact of social media. Zuby notes a disparity in the body positivity movement's reception between men and women, attributing it to emotional versus logical decision-making processes. He suggests that women, driven by emotion, may embrace unhealthy behaviors endorsed by the movement, while men tend to prioritize logic and health.

The discussion touches on the influence of social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram, where body positivity messaging proliferates, shaping perceptions of beauty and self-worth. They reflect on generational disparities in technology adoption, with younger generations immersed in social media from an early age, prompting concerns about its effects on mental health and self-image.

Mum of seven here. No phone before 18. My adult kids have managed just fine when they get one. No social media either. My kids thank me for keeping it from them.

Wow, this woman is nuts. She still doesn't see what's wrong with her giving a 4 year old a smart phone. My son is almost 4, and no matter how much he begs me to use the tablet that isn't even connected to the wifi, I always tell him no. When he's a teenager, I'll get him a flip phone only for me to call him.

The ultimate problem is that body positivity conflates health with sexual desirability., , it’s not your doctor’s job to rate how hot you are, and it’s not instagram’s job to say how healthy you are.

Body positivity is working so well. That is why Ozempic is so greatly abused in todays markets. Women are extremely susceptible to suggestions, and marketers know this. The body positivity is about eating as much of the SAD diet that you want without feeling responsible for it.

What’s the difference between a 4-year-old having a smart phone and a 4-year-old having a tablet? If you allow unfettered access to apps and the internet the answer is essentially none. A phone (not necessarily smart) is useful when kids reach an age where they are out of the house independently. For my eldest this was age 10-11 (year 6) but can obviously be earlier for some. However he doesn’t have TikTok, Insta or WhatsApp installed and can’t change that without my approval. He has YouTube and often watches shorts on repeat which is, unsurprisingly, typically a stream of random crap but not intrinsically harmful in small doses in my opinion. He isn’t allowed to just use his phone whenever he wants when at home and his overall screen time is (fairly liberally) limited.

My 9-year-old (year 5) has a different personality and shows no interest in having a phone or using social media (the older one wanted his own phone from around age 6). We don’t really need to limit his screen time as video games and TV are not generally his natural first choices.

They’ll need to be at least 13-16 before I allow them to have their own social accounts and I’ll need to be sure that they’re at least aware of the negatives and dangers and there are likely to be conditions, at least at the outside, e.g. nothing that’s shared online is private within the family.

Parental controls are a nightmare to set up even for someone like me, an IT professional with 40+ years experience. It’s very hard to give _some_ freedom without opening up big holes that a motivated kid can choose to exploit.

Actually I think that the "women" pushing this idea are the better looking women. If your competitors get fat then you look even better.

This is all nonsense, sorry to say, I like this channels content though.
But the elephant not in the room is the FATHER.
A solid father is always the answer to any new fandangled contraption, be it the telephone, the television, radio, smartphones, you name it.
