By age 13, 80% of girls distort the way they look online.* Let’s change that.

Social media is a big part of young people’s lives -- but retouching apps and the pressure to post the ‘perfect selfie’ are hurting their self-esteem and confidence. Have the selfie talk with a girl you love to reverse the damage and celebrate real beauty. The Dove Self-Esteem Project can show you how.

Let’s Change Beauty 💪💙

* Based on the research results from the U.S. surveying girls who use social media; US n-556 age 10-17.

This made me cry. I’m 19 years old and I wish so badly I hadn’t grown up with social media. It ruined my self esteem and I became so good at editing pictures and doing makeup and loosing weight. as women we are diminished to our appearance and only our appearance. I wish I could go back and time and take my phone away.

I have huge respect for Dove doing this! This needs talking about, parents need to realise the dangers of smart phones and social media. We all do.

This is brilliant Dove. I'm.not sure who your PR or media agency are, but you need to get some budget behind this and share it with millions, not thousands. Very powerful piece.

As a mother of a 12 year old, who looks very much like this girl, I cried. The pressure on young girls to look a certain way is so scary and unrealistic. Amazing add, very powerful

Amazing how I got this ad when I was feeling down about myself and searched for a makeup tutorial to cover eye bags 🤣 I immediately closed the video and told myself I’m beautiful just the way I am :), Thankyou dove

Social media had created many insecurities which caused me to have low self esteem at times. I feel like we need to stop having these high expectations of ourselves to look certain ways

One of the greatest advertisements I have ever seen. As a father of 2 teenage daughters who dislike social media for what it has become. This is perfect. Congratulations DOVE for doing this. ❤🙏

As an adolescent, I really appreciate you guys doing this, it's really getting out of hand now...everyone just feels that they're obligated to be "pretty" and "handsome" which they naturally are, but their appearances aren't enough for society's insanely high beauty standards...it's very sad :(

This makes me cry a bit, I once posted a picture of myself freshfaced with no makeup and someone commented I looked bad and should take it down- I was so embarrassed. We need to be kinder to each other, glam selfies are great but so are natural ones too.

I am 40.
These are/were the thoughts of most young girls in every era BUT social media just makes it even harder 😢

Even adults still struggle with this…

Much respect for choosing to use your power to make a difference in the lives of children.

When I was 13 and I posted a photo on Instagram where I was without makeup, girls and even boys laughed at me because I had acne, thick eyebrows and a big nose. After that, I began to makeup a lot and process photos, and then everyone immediately began to write that I had become so prettier and, in general, I had a model face. But my face was absolutely the same. Now I am 20 and I, despite the fact that I still sometimes makeup for different looks, I fell in love with myself for who I am and now I calmly go out into the street without makeup without being ashamed of it. Girls, we know we are beautiful! 💕 And if someone tells you that you are ugly, then most likely they themselves are hiding behind thousands of filters and layers of makeup, or just toxic people.

This commercial is beautiful. Thank you for putting it out there for us teenagers. With social media, it’s hard to remember that things online are not reality.

No Selfie Needed. There's a whole world out there to look at, listen to, and share. Scenery, art, architecture, animals, objects (even a colorful pile of dishes soaking in the sink can look beautiful photographed in the right way).

Been learning about marketing in school these past few weeks, and it was proposed for us to analyse a commercial. I've been looking all over the Internet yet no other company could make ads that truly touched and captivated me. Especially as a teenager, who's going to show my presentation to other teenagers who I'm sure are just as media-obsessed and manipulated by the unrealistic beauty standards as me! It's not a one or two time thing either, every single project is unique and well-thought! The marketing team and PR definitely deserve a standing ovation!

The only decent advert with a positive message I've seen in a very, very long time.

I am a 14year old & I never did makeup in my entire life nor do I intend to. I am happy about how I look- because our distinct looks make us unique. Don't care what people say about your looks - just believe in yourself - always remember you ARE BEUTIFUL IN YOUR OWN UNIQUE WAY!!!
