"Module" doesn't really narrow down the contents of a package these days.

If you want a nice "sight glass", I'd look for spare parts for a "Shaper" or other machine that uses recirculated based methods of flow lubrication. Machines such as shapers typically use them so you can see the level along the ways of the machine head. Check out Abom79's vids on his shaper, among all his vids of his restoration of his machine you shall see the sight glasses.

The bit you tore out is where you would put a bit of wadding so swarf etc. can be caught and seen, indicating a problem with the machines innards or a way to tell if the oil was getting a bit dark due to being aged / operating out of temperature. They also provide a means of restrictive flow negating the need of other forms of regulation for the oils pressure throughout the entire machine, the excess pressurised oil then gets distributed among the gearing, leaving the areas under the sight glass to slowly distribute oil along the ways while in operation.

Glass isn't always used as the oil during use gets hot and as a result, the glass has potential to crack due to heat cycling. Resins / or plastics are usually more forgiving over time, though not infallible. Hence them being sort of "consumable" from the operators perspective, and not usually a high quality component.

I built a resistor array for a project last week. Not pretty! Need to order some.
