And yes, it's a K-type thermocouple socket which doubles up as a component lead clamp (very good for low value capacitors).

Small tip for the IR port cover: Put a couple of layers of black PVC tape on the inside of it, or it'll fall out any time it brushes against something.

Normally they come boxed, but it's not uncommon for ebay sellers to dump the box, as it can save shipping posts. You got everything which should've been supplied. Don't worry about the battery, they supply crap ones anyway.

The probes are fairly average, they work. As already mentioned, clean the tips with a solvent. The black adaptor is for testing SMD components, transistors, capacitors, and resistors (there's no hFE on this model, mind). It goes between mA and V terminals.

I'm also looking forward to the review since I'm planning to buy one. The Brymen BM867 is just too expensive so this UT61E would be a nice alternative.

That gray thing is shared between several models in the UT61 series, but it actually works for UT61E as well, for capacitors and resistors and diode measurements.

Clean the probe tips with a bit of isopropyl alcohol, there tends to be a bit of crap left from the plastic forming on the lead tips.

S Icon is serial on (it's always on in this model so no auto power off without a bit of hacking)

China and Hong Kong Posts do officially prohibit shipping of batteries. Obviously with the amount of packages they process many will still go through with no problem, but it's still better be safe than sorry.

For people that aren't quite as concerned as you about "claims down the line", I'd recommend Jamendo dot com. Choose search, advanced search, then select a cc license. There is a tonne of properly open source music there. The odds of any issues down the line is really not a concern.

Hey Martin,
the packaging suprised me. I bought the UT61E some time ago (not on ebay) and I got it in a real box.
My probes and the serial connection cable are a bit different and labled with UNI-T. It seems you got a inofficial bundle?! ;-)

yeah, good looking autoranging true rms meter with 5 digits for decent money. although I have no way to verify its accuracy but no doubt it's plenty

I deleted 2 of my uploaded videos when i heard this. I uploaded 4 years ago a video from a music cd, and i uploaded few secunds of that music from each track, just to promoted the cd on a site for selling my cd's secund hand. But i never deleted it. More then 10.000 viewers, never had complaines about it. And i don't want any, so i deleted them.

Hello!
I want to buy this model. But after 7 years, I thought it would make USB-USB communication. The same communication remained, and the new laptops do not have the RS232 port :( .
Otherwise, is it worth the money, even though they didn't bring anything new to this model?
