Foster Care Books for Young Kid

Today I am showing two books that are staples in my house for young kids or new foster parents. Books can help open the door to conversation and questions. They can help guide foster parents on how to talk about foster care in an age appropriate way.

Anyone who want to know what the page in the first book she opened, it read "sometimes mamas and dads need to solve big problems, like finding a place to live, learning not to drink to much, or learning not to hurt people when they are angry" that really sold the book for me so thought I'd share

You’re an amazing role model. I’m a 25yr old who would love to foster a child when I’m in my late 30s or when I’m 40. It’s seriously amazing how much you’re inspiring others but also helping educate and support foster parents out there. I wish you get to hear this often, you’re an angel. You’re the good we need in this world. Think of how many trauma cycles you must’ve broken by helping these kids and giving them the love and support they deserve. I don’t know you, but I love the person you are. I wish this word had more of you in it.

What i love about kids books like this is it also gives adults a vocabulary to use with kids in these situations. Often adults dont necessarily know how to approach explaining something to a child, and reading the book together also allows the adult to have an example of how to talk about a situation. They can use that same way even when questioning come up outside of reading.

I remember being a kid. I was adopted at the age of 2 after being taken away at birth. Apparently had a few visits with my birth mother but they stopped after a while.

My mum got a book about different families. Showed me how some families have two parents...some like mine have one. And showed me about the different family dynamics. That really helped me learn that i was loved and i learnt an in-depth understanding of what makes a family a family.

I used to be teased and bullied for being adopted but soon learnt that others may bully you...but your family is your family and no one can take that away from you as a kid. Especially when you're in a safe and happy home.

Parents may be informed of the depth of what they're doing, guardians and case workers may be informed about what needs to, but children seem to be left quite out of the loop. im glad there are authors out there who are making books like these

I would love to see you read aloud books like these. I've been trying to heal my heart of the trauma that led me to needing foster care and the subsequent abandonment of my family. I'm an adult now but I think this could help. ❤
