Overall, I am glad we have this book as a resource for those who have been adopted, but it is somewhat dated, and in my opinion, not really the best option for younger children. If you've used this book, let me know your thoughts!

I'm 37 years old and this was a treasured book from my childhood. My parents read it to my brother and I, who were both adopted. I was adopted at birth, but it still felt relateable. We never once questioned why we were adopted, but always knew we were loved. This is truly a treasure!

As an adoptee who still has her copy of this book, I have to say that it was one of my most treasured possessions. Yes it is better for an older child but I found it really helped me to know that I was ok and it wasn't my fault that things happened the way they did. This book was like my safe haven for many years. The pictures were fun. I believe this is an essential book for any older child waiting for, or has been adopted. The fact that it is an older book can help children to see that adoption has happened for many years and that they aren't different.

I'm 35 years old. My mother read me this book every night as a child. I love it!

I'm 40, and was adopted at birth.
This is how my parents told me I was adopted. I don't remember being told, I just always remember knowing.
I was cleaning up my room when I was 16, and found this book in an old box. I remembered I loved it when I was a kid. My mom and Dad both read it to me together all the time when I was young. (and yes, I re-read it at 16. ha ha)

I'm a therapist too, and I love having books to recommend. I'm so glad I found your channel. These reviews are so helpful to me, especially the honesty about the books' limitations. Thanks!

My most treasured book but I wish I had found out later in life instead of childhood

wow, the amount of people that the adoption propaganda worked on... sad. I was read this book as a child and I knew - this is a pile of crap, just what are you hiding? What it ended up being was I was taken from my mother by force, adopted by force, my fathers information was removed from my birth certificate and was claimed unprovided/unknown so that it was easier to get the courts approval to "adopt" me out. I am a maternity home baby - survivor of Forced adoption/government human trafficking. My first born was trafficked from me when they found out my adoption placement (propaganda) failed. My second born was born in Mexico and she is protected from those legalized child traffickers by the Mexican constitution. Unlilke most countries, Mexico does not allow foreigners to adopt their children so child trafficking services is NOT ABLE to come here and steal our babies at birth. Google "birth alert" if you think forced adoption ended when they closed the maternity homes. It didnt! They moved directly into the hospitals where social workers/adoption practitioners work DIRECTLY in the neonatal units and make reports on vulnerable mothers to CPS so they can force adopt their babies too. First world human trafficking - the billions of dollars industry no one wants to talk about
