God & Attachment Theory

What does attachment theory teach us about God? If this is a foundationally important way that we relate with ourselves and each other, then how does that affect how we relate to God, and how he relates to us?

I used to have anxious attachment when I was atheistic. I was constantly trying to please other people, based on vague guesses of what I thought they wanted me to be. I was putting some people on a pedestal, listening specifically to them and channelling energy into them, rather than having a more balanced approach of taking notice of a variety of people and not placing responsibility on those individuals to channel so much energy into me.

Recently I realised that people are not so black and white, there are opportunities all around to learn and connect with people, and treating other people as I'd like to be treated helped me discover myself as an individual. I stopped my needy behaviour of expecting attention from certain individuals, when they don't owe me anything. I became more forgiving of others and myself for being imperfect. I became more confident in striving to be whom I aim to be, without excessive worrying about what others think of me. I reduced my attempts to change other people, and didn't get so caught up in their attempts to change me.

Thank you for making this video and discussing this topic! I'm studying pshycotherapy now and when it came to attechment theory I started think how it relates to relationships with God and person's behavior patterns that could be used contacting Him. It was important for me to hear more thoughts about this. Wish all of us to be with Holy Spirit ansd secure attechment.

How do we heal attachment trauma? For me it was becoming a Christian. By seeing THE perfect relationship modeled by God(with each and every One of us) enabled me letting go of the disappointment of other humans(parentes, partners) not beeing able to model secure attachment. This is a beautiful description of the gift of relationship can become as we attach to our perfect Love, THE king of Kings and lord of all: Jesus ♥️🙏🙌

I appreciate the work you did in this video. Very helpful! The only other place I have found rich content around Secure Attachment to God has been with Wild at Heart and the Become Good Soil podcast. Both your content and their content provide helpful 'wells of good water' for the men in the community I oversee. My longing is to continue to experience secure attachment to God and for the men under my care to grasp it deeply. One of the ways I would like more help is to find examples of poor, average, and secure attachment in film. We use a lot of secular film to illustrate both our need for God and also the way that he supplies our needs.

Thank you Lord as your children we can have a sure attachment and know we are provided for, while I pray and bind for more like my family, friends, colleagues, neighbours, acquintances, opponents and in the body of Christ like myself to come to Christ to desire to be attached to God while being clear, sensitive yet balanced between being rightly intimate and distant in any relationship with another, binding myself not being unequally yoked and have any common share with those with insecure attachment styles by giving mixed and confusing signals of intimacy when in relationship, by being too independant or too dependant upon another, in accordance with revelation 3:20, 1 corinthians 14:33, 2 corinthians 6:14-18 and this whole message, in the name and blood of Jesus Christ, amen and hallelujah: "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. It was years ago now that I looked for a video relating God with secure attachment. This is probably the only one on YouTube. In reality, human parents are foster parents until adoption by the permanent family of God adopts the child. Foster families are good but not the same as an adopted family.

What about the people the Bible calls white washed tombs, wolves in sheep's clothing, hypocrites, a brood of vipers, the wicked, oppressors, haughty, prideful? Forgiveness people can give, but trust and relationship would not be wise or guarding the heart. It would be throwing pearls to swine. ...it's so hard to figure the balance out... especially when you come across with, or get stuck in some sort of relationship with one of these unhealthy, character disordered types....
