I was tagged by Nick over at Whitetailbushcraft to do a video showing what one tool I would choose to have with me in a survival situation. Here is that video.

Nice video! I agree with you, especially in a rural survival situation like what you described. I was glad to see you show your fire supplies. Thanks!

I am with ya, Joe. Am trying to fill a 4 gallon bucket with matches, lighters, dryer lint, etc. but everything has gotten so dad-gum expensive! Trying to catch them on sale, but summer barbeque time is probably not the right time! Hey - I also have the 9 volt battery with steel wool in another survival can. Saw it on Dual Survival. Mrs. LP

I agree that the means to make a fire 100% of the time is so vital. The very first thing that will happen in a survival scenario is panic. With a fire you have a means to slow down and regroup your thoughts. You instantly have a "living" friend who will give immense comfort. You will then be able to plan your next move. Also if you can get warm and comfortable you will not burn as much energy and its "ALL" about energy use.

That tag is a great tag, and i will consider myself tagged by you..lol I like you answer because you told of your skill set and and why you would pick fire. It is a tough decision to make and it will vary greatly depending on where, when, what, and the knowledge of that person.

A good choice Joe, I think everyone's choice is pretty much driven by their location. I was ready for you tonight...I've already eaten ;-)) Thanks for sharing and Take Care my friend :-))

Good choice Joe, that's what I picked too for my tag! I couldn't agree more! It really depends on where you live and your skill base! Water isn't an issue here in Ohio either but the bugs are bad here too! I am just practicing my primitive fire skills and I wouldn't want to depend on that so my choice was "sure fire" too...Thanks for sharing! Great minds think a like..lol..lol

I agree with you. fire is the most important.

Thank you. To each his own, fire to me is more important because you need heat and water and you can boil water on the fire. A knife would be a great thing to have but you would die from being cold or having no water prior to needing that knife in my opinion. I would really like my .22 magnum rifle but that wont keep me warm and hydrated either lol. Thank you. Joe

Shelter, water and food are your needs and you need fire to effectively have all three so generally combustion is the way to go. There are rivals to it though such as a warm sleeping bag when its freezing and a tent when its raining hard. As for long term, an axe or cordage is the way to go because wood processing and procuring food will be your main duties.

I would like to add that the hacksaw blade used as a striker could be ground to a knife edge which would work better . Then you would have a knife to cut birch bark to make a container to hotrock boil water. Plus clean fish and any game caught in traps.

whilst I disagree with your choice for me, I do agree that its good for you...let me explain, we all have different skill sets you have identified your, shall we say 'weak' point, so that is what gives you the most comfort so it's a great choice, for me it's my Mora knife, I can start fire with multiple methods so its not an issue with me for some  they may be concerned with containers for water carry others warmth in a blanket or tarp....the answer to this question is what brings you personally the most comfort. Thx for sharing this video

Well for what we decide to have and what we really need to survive is the thing, You have to look to the native families that were living off the lands what did they have stone tools, weapons skins, fire, just to survive. ya it`s tough to figure what you want to carry more LOL.-
