Nestle is one of the most disliked companies out there. This video looks into what I believe to be the biggest reasons behind the hatred.

I do want to make it clear that formula is an acceptable and necessary alternative for mothers who can't produce healthy milk or are facing any other issues that make breastfeeding impractical. There's obviously no shame in that. I felt this went without saying, but it seems that some segments may have given the viewer a different impression. As I stated in the video, it's up to the parents to decide what's suitable for their baby in their own particular situation.

15 years ago Nestle sent us mailers at different milestones for our child recommending their products for a “healthy” infant, baby, the toddler, etc…. I’m not sure where they got our info from, but my wife had miscarried so it was a reminder every 6 months of the life our kid never had.

I always try to avoid Nestle but it's so difficult when you release how many companies they have under them

A lot of moms get a ton of shame piled on them for using formula when breastfeeding is not an option. My sister in law had her baby early and couldn’t do things through breastfeeding. She is a great mom. What got me to comment was the suggestion baby formula should be eliminated. Responsible use it works fine and kids grow up fine. Some countries have high mortality rates for the mother during childbirth and formula helps the dad keep the child fed.

The water one is a sore point. The Arrowhead bottled water had been, in the past, taking water without a license from the San Bernardino Forest in California during a drought. The state has ordered them to stop pumping the excess water but geez. That's harmful and dumb.

I watched a documentary awhile back. The CEO of nestle said water should never be free and people should have to pay for it regardless. All while they literally make %100 profit from water. I stopped buying nestle anything about 10 years ago.

I live in the Philippines. Honestly, it took me until my adult years to realize that my country produces coffee and cocoa locally, because all my family ever consumed my entire life was Nescafe coffee and Nestle/foreign made chocolates. For many filipinos, Nescafe 3 in 1's was (still is?) the default idea of "coffee" because they market it so goddamn well.
Thankfully things are a bit changing now and local coffee and choco farms is starting to get more business. Seriously, just stop buying Nestle. Yeah you probably won't hurt their corporation by boycotting, but by doing so you'll be giving your money to other businesses/producers/farmers who deserve it more.

I hate Nestle with a burning passion but the fact they own so much is definitely a problem. If they were shut down, there's a lot of companies and products that possibly would cease to exist. Not to mention the sheer number of people who would be left unemployed.

It's definitely a very difficult topic to navigate.

I first learned the water thing from a comment the president made on his thoughts on water. He genuinely told people water is a privilege and not everyone deserves it. Literally one of the main things people don't want but NEED along with food, air, and shelter. Clothes, reading and writing, these are more of a privilege than water and yet if he could the president of Nestle would happily stockpile all of it and try to sell it back to people saying if you can't afford water (something that almost everyone else makes free) you don't deserve it.

Nestle in rich countries: “we take your water, waste plastic and sell it back to you”

Nestle in poor countries: “we take the water you need to survive, sod off”

I’m from Michigan so I’ve heard about the water. Also, I’m not surprised about the chocolate because I know of other companies that have the same practices. The baby formula was new for me.

My wife and I adopted our kids as babies. So breast feeding wasn't an option for us. Removing formula isn't the best option, even in a developed country. Not saying it's the best option, far from it, but there are legitimate reasons to use it

Most hated companies are hated because they have some combination of overly greedy, incompetent or bad customer service. Nestle is one of the few companies out there that I think is genuinely evil. Most companies and even people are greedy to a certain extent but Nestle takes it to the next level. I try to avoid buying any Nestle products as much as possible though it is easy to buy a Nestle product without realizing it.

I’m from China,
Idk what exactly happened but apparently when I was a baby, people are recommending Nestle’s baby formula for me to my parents because other ones causes brain damage or something. There was like a phase where news covered babies drinking certain baby formula died for whatever reason…something about having their head grown larger, or brain, from the formula.

And nestle was supposedly safer because it’s expensive…and expensive means it’s legit. Or something

I used to read an article that there are evidence some doctors forced mother to replace breastfeed with baby formula. This happen because some baby formula producer (one of the most prominent is Nestle) bribed some doctors. I agree on certain condition baby formula can be useful, but forcing mothers to use baby formula is totally unacceptable.

Edit: I found out a lot of people seem misunderstanding about baby formula controversy. Company Man isn't against baby formula, but against baby formula producer forcing mothers to use baby formula instead.

I think we all know why they're hated but I'd like to see the extent of what they're doing

I took an Africian History class in the 80's and learned about a World Wide Boycott back then of Nestle's due to the Baby Formula issue at that time. I have tried to avoid Nestle products since but it is exceptionally hard to do.

I remember reading about the formula scandal in developing countries when I was pregnant with my first kid. It's mind-boggling what desperation does to people. The statistics are heartbreaking.

As far as shady business practices go, Nestle is far from being the only one. They’re just among the select few that’ve gotten publicity about it. A LOT of other companies do similar stuff.

When one of Nestle's executive is on record stating that water is not a human right, you can understand the outrage.
