i think something you negleted to talk about is where TSMC is located: Taiwan. Taiwan is one of the lest impacted country by COVID 19. Through out last year all productions were normal, no production line were shut down due to covid 19.

It’s not really immune to shortages… we still can’t buy an iPhone in the UK. I wanted to upgrade my 12 pro but I’m fed up with this situation and I don’t want to buy a 2 months old phone at the same price.

Apple has a tight and solid partnership with chipmakers. They have a fixed schedule and preallocation. Their suppliers know Apple can sell this much volume. Other manufacturers depend on available capacity because they are not major players, their schedules are not fixed like Apple.
