I grew up speaking my mother tongue Grench, At home, we spoke German and at school, I had to learn Dutch since Belgium is a trilingual country. When I turned 29, I fell in love with a Japanese girl and we decided to move to Japan. I started to learn Japanese in a language school and worked in the evenings.
Europe is definitely the ideal place to learn languages.
I m now 71 and I need to brush up my French and English. I forgot the Spanish I had learned in high school and the Dutch I learned in primary school. Nowadays veith the help of Internet, it’s become very easy to practice a language on a regular basis. In the past, I had only short wave radio programs and language schools.
How lucky young people are nowadays !!!

I am Mexican-American and know Mexican Spanish and American English. But I have learned alot from other languages vocabulary and other Alphabets in Including Greek, Cyrillic Russian, Arabic, Hebrew scripts all which come from Phoenician script hopefully i can learn more. Another benefit of Learning new languages can improve communication and articulation in speaking. Every language in each country is different in phonation. We have sounds used in other countries, which may not be in our alphabet. Your tongue will be exposed to different sounds. There are some people "for example, speaking french with an english accent, or speaking Spanish or Filipino with out roling their r sound, . It is good practice and exercise for the muscles involve in verbal communication such as your lips, jaw, and tongue. Also, you will not have a hard time talking to foreign people
