Not just turtles, many reptiles have temperature dependent sexes. As for the ones that fon't live too long, we may loose them within 10 years.

It looks like people are going to have to go out and collect as many eggs as they can. Incubate them at the proper temperatures. And then release them with their nest mates at the right time. We’re going to have to do like we do with trout and other fish..

Not only that it's a sing of global warming but the Jacaranda trees in Mexico city are blooming right now and if you're wondering "what's weird about it?" Those trees only bloom in spring, we're in winter and that means that this summer it's gonna be probably the hottest yet.

I hope they are able to survive, this will definitely work as an evolutionary bottleneck and perhaps the individual males with genes allowing them to be male at higher temps will survive and add that to the gene pool. But it's all dependent on if they'll survive the bottleneck. We'll very likely not be able to solve the temperature part of the problem anyway as much as we've caused it.

i literally called this in school years ago. as soon as i found out about temperatures determining the sex of some species i was like “man that can’t be good for them longterm with global warming”. sucks to have been right.

People don't realize that "a couple degrees" matter a lot. People talk about "coastal cities going underwater". This is, as far as I know, not really the biggest issue. Other than the bigots laughing at the idea of coastal cities going underwater, there are many real concerns about coastal habitats. Species needed for diversity and the food chain can disappear, like we find with species who live on glaciers. Rising temps causing insects to die off, resulting in less good for birds and smaller species. Species cannot adapt when it happens so quickly.
