What Causes ALS? | Research Revealed | TDP-43

Scientists don't know what causes the neurodegenerative disease ALS but medical researchers are working hard to find out. Philip Smethurst is a postdoctoral researcher here at the Patani Lab at UCL and he recently made some discoveries about the role that a protein called TDP-43 might play in causing the disease.

ALS is a form of motor neurone disease, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, that causes weakening of the muscles and eventually death. Unfortunately there is no known cure for the condition but we're working hard to try to find one.

My father Gorgio 56 died in one year in 1986 From this horrible disease he was found on the floor of the hospital because they took his breathing machine away from him thinking he was OK to breathe on his own he suffocated to death that goes to show you how much people don’t know about this disease please help find a cure

i agree with you. I have heretary C9 and ALs 2 gene. When i was diagnosed i went on Thc and hemp gummies. I was put on a bi pap . i have done this for now entering my 8th year of ALs. started this every 4 to 6 hours after diagnosis. I think this is why i can stil walk talk and eat and take care of myself. it stopped the bad protiens . NOw i am diagnosed wtih breast cancer. Which my mother died of and i took progesteron . So probably one of those caused it . But amazing thing i discovered after the biopsy was I Had fast moving cancer cells but this makes no sense.I was htr2 neg. So my thc and hemp togethers has been keeping this entact and not feeding it. the Thc and hemp kills the bad cells and dont harm the good ones. something to look into

TDP-43 clumping is not the cause, it's a result of a very slow triggering process of certain "suicidal mitochondria" that all sporadic ALS patients have had since birth inside their brains. We know this now, and the actual cellular death process is called "microautophagy". This is what causes the TDP-43 to clump, and become toxic. As more cells "pop" from this apoptosis process, the toxicity is released 1000x over and thus becomes overwhelming, and this "swamp" is fatal to the environment the motor neurons live in. In order to "fix" ALS, we are going to have to find a way to "clean up" the environment for the upper motor neurons. Stem Cells procedures like NurOwn can modulate this death process just enough to tip the balance and stop progression in many people. BTW, Dr. Hande Ozdinler just confirmed suicidal mitochondria at Northwestern. ALS is the most complex malfunction of the human body known right now, much more complex than Cancer.
