MY £2000 RANGE ROVER'S GEARBOX FAILED... COULD THIS BE THE END?

My £2000 Range Rover's gearbox failed in the last video, going into limp mode and returning to normal after switching it off and on. Was this just a hiccup, or a more serious issue?

Thumbs up if you think I should restore the L322 to it's original look

Good plan Joel. Tell the car you’re looking forward to having a new gearbox, it’ll listen and not break

Yeah it's impossible to be angry with the L322 for long. Such a charming car. I hope you changed the chain tensioner.

Although not original, the clear tail lights suit the giverny green tremendously. I wouldn't worry too much about originality if you like them, it's a subtle change.

This defines the problems of modern cars, too much information to worry about, in the past we drove around peacefully, then it broke and we fixed or scrapped it.

Joel, L322 owner here in the states - FIRST, any time you off-road your L322, be sure to be in low range. I believe you learned this from last time. SECOND - don’t listen to Land Rover/BMW with the “lifetime” oils. It was marketing BS. Trans pan services every 60-70k miles.

Joel you are not listening to me… I’ve already warned you.. when your transmission fails, which it will do, get Herts and Beds transmissions to come and collect it and repair it. It won’t be £3000. I paid £2100 for my E53 to be done a few years ago. The guys there are really good and all they do is transmissions. When mine was there you should have seen the cars in storage waiting to be repaired - some not long out of warranty too.
The problem with the ZF24 5hp transmission is that nobody services them when they are supposed to be done so when it eventually is done it’s normally too late.
Anyway, don’t forget to put a new timing chain tensioner in asap like I mentioned before along with fresh oil or your wallet really will have a dent in it. Replacing the tensioner is something you could do and film it as it would make some interesting content instead of just driving around. Any questions just ask..

Lately, I purchased a L322 Supercharged as my Daily and I'm loving it. The thing is that the prices over here in Germany are a totally different story. I paid almost 10k Euro for a Range with 255000 km on the clock and having some issues. There were only 3 or 4 SCs available on the market. Have the service kit for the transmission in my garage, next job to be done. Cheers, Chris

I dont understand the hate towards the l322 in the comments, can bet MOST saying negative things have bever even sat in one let alone drive/owned one! Yes they can be troublesome but in my experience no more so than any other 20+year old car's. The newest l322s are 13 years old now! Iv owned 2 l322s and never had any car come close to how it makes me feel! Such a joy to drive! And at 1.5-3k for one id rather just buy another l322 ever year than finance any new car! At the price some of the first gen l322 even if ghey break you wont be loosing much So much value and so much car!

Trouble is that if you want to do longer distances, my sense is that one of these is that you could find yourself stranded in the middle of the French countryside. Holiday ruined

You're going to have to work hard to beat a RR meet up record. Currently must be held by Waitrose Car Park on any given Friday in Cirencester. Glad she's still going and great update.

Depending on the location a meet could be on the cards. Also look me up when you change the rear lights as mine have weird scratches on, they pass MOT but bug the hell outta me. Great video and glad the gear box is behaving now.

Hi Joel, it would be epic if you had a video call meeting or even better had a trip out to Germany with your L322 and met LR TIME - Vera and Christian. That would be a brilliant video to I`m sure you`d get a wealth of knowledge from them. Cheers for the great channel mate !

Find a second hand L322 box or recondition this one.

Also do not recommend selling at all costs because this is your perfect spec L322 and yes you might have to spend a few grand but afterwards, you'll have your favorite - dream car dude!

Get your battery load tested, just in case the gearbox was suffering low voltage issue, not an uncommon issue when the battery is low in capacity.

Working on my L322 for 6 months, finally got it on the road last week after replacing the engine with a good v8 4.4 M62. Now I have a gearbox fault, Shift solenoid 3 and presafe error, doing a tranny oil change tomorrow to see if that will clear the fault as I suspect the old oil maybe contaminated and then onto the air suspension inactive fault and CV boot replacement. Its a Marathon, you have to pace yourself but to drive these cars even if its just for a short while makes it all worth it. They definately attack your wallet lol
