Learn the narrow, finicky and tricky roads of the British countryside and how to navigate through country roads effectively.

This video is an advanced tutorial and requires a lot of attention, focus and concentration. Take notes whilst watching this video and be sure to pause when necessary.

Country roads & lanes are particularly more hazardous than urban places due to the unpredictability of animals, oncoming traffic and low visibility (high bushes, trees) that you may encounter when on your journey!

The countryside has lots of different road signs compared to urban ones. Some road signs you may be unfamiliar with like "cattle grid" signs warning you of cattle in the vicinity.

Country lanes road markings: 3:13

Country roads have lots of road markings and you will inevitably come across one when travelling out of town. It is best practice to drive defensively and with caution.

Country lanes use of speed: 4:59

Driving in the countryside come with speed limits also! It is vital you abide by the speed limit but do not speed nearer the limit. It is best practice to drive with common sense and to drive slower than usual due to the increased amount of hazardous scenarios.

Positioning yourself on countryside roads & lanes is important. As visibility is more hindered in the countryside than in towns and cities, it is important to position yourself correctly in order to see more of the roads and to safely react to hazardous scenarios like cattle in the middle of the road.

The countryside has any hazards and they will appear more unpredictability as you navigate through the tight terrain. When encountering a potential hazard, you should drive defensively and stop within the distance seen to be clear.

Very often, you will drive through villages, small hamlets and parishes whilst driving in the countryside. When entering villages, it is important to understand that urban rules apply, rather than country rules.
