I didn't even realize it till now, but Top Gun is the reason I joined the Navy. When I heard that effects laden bell sound at the beginning of this trailer--it's the main sound from the first movie--it brought tears to my eyes and a tidal wave of memories overtook me. I've always wondered why I joined the Navy, and now I know. Fuckin' Top Gun. I watched it all the time as a kid and it must've gotten into my subconscious. Mmmm-hmmm. My dad said I had to get a job, and without knowing why, I went to the Navy recruitment office and signed up. I don't regret it. That Top Gun bell sound and the main theme can immediately make me cry. They are a direct access point to the inner most recesses of my heart. Not my literal heart. You know what I mean.
