Huberman also mentioned how the dopamine level rises substantially after a ice bath / cold shower.
I can confirm that, I feel really the hours after exposing myself to the cold.
Highly recommend!

I started doing cold showers as a teenager when I first heard about it from Wim Hof and Tim Ferriss, and it helped tremendously when I was in a bad spot mentally. I actually burst out in laughter the first time, after weeks or more of barely cracking a smile.

The thing that people can't seem to understand is that inflammation is an important part of the cycle of adaptation. Anything that reduces inflammation may be also reducing adaptation.

I do it right after I workout. And love it. I dont care if it blocks hypertrophy. Just means I recover faster and am able to stick to my routine.

Yes sir you are correct. Do the cold exposure BEFORE the workouts.

If building muscle is your goal then I totally agree with this video. However there are situations where ice bathing right after the activity is more beneficial just because of different goals. If you play a sport for example and you have back to back days of playing that sport such as a football tournament or a prelim finals swim meet it is better to take the ice bath after for improved short term recovery.

3 months later: New study shows ice baths should be done immediately after workout for maximum muscle growth. Doing them before workout now linked to cancer, obesity and penis shrinkage.

For anyone looking for more info on heat and cold exposure. Just look into Susanna Soberg. She is one of the leading researchers in this field.

There is a mass misconception regarding inflammation. I dislike the general negative connotation that follows. It's a healing process, so it's obviously gonna be a symptom of injury but it is not wholly a negative. When reducing inflammation, you are usually stunting your healing processes. An exception would be if the inflammation is so much that you're constricting return blood flow. Its why I've always been against the whole RICE protocol. The repairs still need to occur at some point. (Otherwise catabolism)

Cold exposure IS great for:
flushing lymph system waste
Getting a rush from Cortisol and dopamine response
Improved immunity

The body generally follows the heuristic that it adapts the stressors of its environment, hence better ability to deal with cold and greater ability to generate body heat.

There is a similar perspective on Cortisol, but this rant is done.
