For those who dont know, Vasili Arkhipov at the time was the Chief of Staff of the 69th (nice) Sub Brigade, he was one of the person that had the authority to launch nuclear torpedoes, and he did not consent to the launch of the nuclear torpedoes, while the 2 officers (Cmd. Savitsky and Pol. Ofc. Maslennikov) consented to the launch of the nuclear torps, Vasili assumed the explosions they heard was just a warning charge, and he was right.
