Rest in peace, Bernard Hill. You go to your fathers, in whose mighty company, you shall not feel ashamed.

It blows my mind that this scene didn’t make it through editing for the original cut. It does an incredible job evoking intense emotions. Such an incredible scene.

I like the part where Theoden says that no father should ever bury his son. Couldn't agree more.

The fact that the other women are mouthing the lyrics along with her gave such a depth of world building to this scene. It's such a small little detail but it really made me feel like this is a song they sing in this culture when someone dies. It made it more real somehow.

Idk why people troll her singing. It's supposed to be a lament, no? She perfectly portrays how someone would sing in grief and mourning

RIP Bernard Hill.

Eowyn being the chief mourner at Theodred’s funeral is both heartbreaking and fitting. After her and Eomer’s parents died, Theodred became another brother to her.

the most heartbreaking thing about this scene is how it is abruptly ended and we don't get a full song

When I heard this for the first time I thought it's not melodic enough, out of the rhythm... It didn't have the beauty of "may it be" or "Into the West in it. But now... Now I see its own beauty. The severity of it. Simplicity. Naturalistic mood of songs sang on funerals...

Such a beautiful and heartbreaking lament. Miranda Otto doesn't get enough credit for this scene !

I like the woman behind her lip syncing it to herself while holding back grieving shes a good actress

Notice Eowyn's ladies in waiting -try- to join her but they're all too distraught. Theodred was loved and it shines right there.

It's not easy to pull off any song a cappella, but her voice is so beautiful, even when it quivers in her grief <3

Theoden's eyes always stood out to me in this scene. His stare looks so pained and distant, like its taking all the strength and dignity he has to remain compused infront of his people. This and the scene immediately after with Gandalf helped cement Theoden as one of my favourites.
RIP Bernard Hill. You were the finest kind Rohan ever saw. Monumental performance.

Dear Hearts: I remember the first time I watched this scene...burst into tears. I recognized some of the Old English (I had one of the last classic Professors in college and he helped me find my love of Old and Middle English). This is such a powerful scene....All Love

May he be buried before his forefathers, his spirit finds it's way to the halls of his fathers.

If I had any doubt about the choice of Miranda Otto for Eowyn, this formidable, hair-raising scene solidified her as the Eowyn or all Eowyns!❤

Rest easy, Theoden King. The song sung in honor of your son, we now sing for you..your days were long, but not long enough.. your reign was blessed but you have blessed us all.. far more than you realize.. sleep now in the halls of your fathers.

This scene alone has more depth than the entirety of the Hobbit trilogy
