I hate when someone does a "knock knock" joke and then it's a cult

Filipina here—I don't live in Misamis but I want to point out that this could be military propaganda. The Tik Tok that went viral ends with the Tik Toker saying "we need more military". They even made a follow-up video to expound on needing more military presence in Misamis.

This is very troubling because military propaganda has been on the rise this year—especially since there's been a huge surge of military and police-led extrajudicial killings (especially in Mindanao and other provinces with anti-government sentiment). Cult and aswang rumors have also been used by the CIA and the Philippine military and police here for decades.

I wish this angle was discussed in the video!

A local tv program already addressed this cult actually. The guy seen climbing rooftops in the video was interviewed by said program and the guy actually climbed his rooftop from fear of this supposed cult, adding that he was in a state of paranoia during that time. The two men arrested carrying cloths with symbols was interviewed as well, and both said that those cloths with symbols are supposed to be amulets to prevent them from harm, coz during the time they got arrested for violating the curfew, they were also patrolling their home on the lookout for said cult. The murder of the two person was actually a mother and child, and the husband was interviewed as well. He said that he was on call with his wife(because during that time, he was overseas, working) when two men came inside their small hut and was planning on raping the wife. He heard it all, his wife struggling, his child crying. In the end, the two men murdered both and didn't took any belongings.

I found out about the meaning of "tao po" last year, but I can't believe all those years I thought "tao po" was like asking if anybody's home. But it actually means "hey I'm a human being and not some scary entity, please open the door I need assistance."

I can see why people are scared I'd be terrified if I were there too. Whether it's true or not I hope everyone stays safe.

The worst part is how it's so easy to fake something like this that you can't tell whether they're real or not, making it that much harder to fix the situation

The "tao po" tradition is like the anti-vampire version of "If you're a cop, you have to tell me."

I'm an Ilongga and I shared this to my 65-year-old mom. I was shocked when she told me that our relatives and neighbors in Zarraga, Iloilo who had spent time in Mindanao had stories about this cult over the decades.

Hi! I'm from the Philippines and I saw some specific local media investigating this story!

The man on the roof was just a guy trying to spot out "cult members" knocking on doors, but was assumed by the town locals to be the cult member because ykno- it's kinda weird to see a random man on the roof in the middle of the night.

About the two men who were arrested, I am not sure but I heard people say that those weird symbols relate to agimat or anting-anting (amulet or charm)

Again I just saw this on the local television and I might have missed some details

I'm immune to this cult. I never answer my door.

I keep having problems with cults trying to do their sacrifices in my forest, it's pretty annoying

Ya'll Philippines is full of supernatural stories and all that stuff. It's actually so interesting and terrifying. Like i went to college in bukidnon Mindanao, and I went drinking with my classmates and went back to our dorm around 3am, and no one was out bc we were on Marshall law due to the Marawi war. And so curfew was in effect. And there were no rellas (public transpo). So we were walking and there was a street perpendicular to us, there was a woman in a long skirt and baggy top, covered hair walking with a lit torch walking down the street towards us, completely silent. We were so scared but minded our business and walked a little faster and passed the street. But on the next street over, another woman dressed the same, with a lit torch too, was walking down the street. Bruh I was desperate to have a weapon and asked my drunk roommate if she had anything for protection, and she had a fkin spoon. And I literally gripped that spoon, ready to fight every street we passed by. I called my brother to pick us up, and we eventually got home. But I still don't know what that was about despite asking the locals about it. Shts scary.

Plot twist the guy on the rooftop is the local and everyone yelling at him recording is actually the cult members trying to get to him.

As a filipino who lives in the north, I was so confused when I first heard these stories because we literaly have the same stories only we usually dont blame it on a cult but rather anything supernatural like witches, pitch black shadow people, aswang, etc. and the stories I am talking about has been around for decades now. I remember my grandma babysitting me when I was little telling me not to open the door during dusk and evenings because that is when the shadow people comes around knocking at doors looking for children to take away.

I definitely feel that this is a case of mass hysteria. People freaking out and panicking themselves into a state of paranoia. The heightened tension and stress from the paranoid state is causing people to interpret things incorrectly and jumping to conclusions of paranormal or insidious happenings when it could literally be people on drugs or having a mental episode or trying to commit crimes.

I live in the Philippines and did not hear of this until now. WTF. Definitely hits hard when I know what they were saying in Bisaya.

What really scared me is the fact that she said that the 2 guys were captured on April 31st, and she said that twice. April 31st?

I'm actually from Mindanao, Northern Mindanao. due to this cult thing this has greatly affected a lot of us here, although it wasn't rampant in our area, it quickly became a viral thing and literally became a trend where people are knocking to people's houses to threaten. This was first known in TikTok and this is where people had mostly documented their encounters with these types of people. It was really shitty a lot of people here were enveloped in fear, especially to those in areas where it isn't gated or little to no proper roaming officials would patrol.
