I had a psychiatrist, while I was hospitalized for DTS, tell me that he didn't believe I really had bipolar disorder (dx'd as type 2) because I didn't have regular cycles between the two poles. Another told me I couldn't really have bp because I was still functional without meds. Never mind that I am a miserable freaking mess and white-knuckling my way through every day. If I'm off meds and not dead, I can't have bp. Like WTF? These were medical professionals. The amount of ignorance among those who should know better is terrifying.

I just got diagnosed with bipolar (along with ADHD, which i thought was my main problem) and my Dr. is leaning towards cyclothemia specifically, since I tend cycle more frequently with lower grades of depression and mania. I didn't think I was hypomanic since it would typically coincidence with an special interest that I thought was invigorating me 😂 goes to show how self-diagnoses isn't always reliable.
