What is the Definition of Intelligence?

Intelligence was once thought to be uniquely human. But researchers have discovered astonishing cognitive abilities in many other species—not just our close cousins like chimps, or fellow mammals like dolphins—but also crows, parrots, and even octopuses. If we consider the intelligence of swarms, we must add bees, termites, and ants to the list of super smart creatures. Join the scientists who study smarts as we ask: What is intelligence? Why do some species get an extra dose? And just how special are humans, really?

It has always amazed me how much we talk about intelligence without having a clear definition and understanding of what actually intelligence is. I wonder if this is a characteristic of intelligence or of lack of intelligence. 😁

Having the knowledge and understanding that knowledge well enough to use it to see change

Intelligence the measurement of which complex systems process information.

Intelligence is understanding what's if front of you.

Lizards lives near a light bulbs but they don't understand anything about it, But humans do.

Intelligence is about making connections which are obvious.

I once heard a speech where Steve Jobs defined Intelligence in the perfect way possible.

Intelligence is about differences - "does that make any difference?" and "what difference does that make?" The core algorithm of intelligence is selection based on comparisons of the most fitting option from the available ones given relevant constraints. Think about 20 Questions as the best illustration of how intelligence works - by filtering out options.

We have an imagination unlike any other animal.
We plan for the far future.

I asked this once before, but it seems appropriate here as well...Is genetic evolution over the course of millions of years that results in a system that best helps perpetuate itself, the same as intelligence?

Intelligence not just knowing but is the ability to use knowledge in the right way.

Not sure what intelligence is. As for the term "Intelligent Life", I think I have a pretty good definition. Intelligent Life refers to lifeforms that take their survival seriously and take appropriate actions to ensure their survival.

I believe consciousness and survivability are the mainframe of life, intelligence it's a tool to resolve problems not a purpose ! The anthropomorphic narcissistic illusion of intelligence superiority it's a mask used to perpetrate cruelty against any type of life including humans .

We can make conclusions from complex sets of data and uncover theories like general relativity. Does that put us in a different category?

Good video,

Greetings, my fellow apes. Let's talk about intelligence, software, and minds...

1. Intelligence is your problem solving capability.

2. All problem solving is done by software (not hardware like brains).

3. Software means information (aka structure) stored in a memory system.

4. Learning always means software building. You build software over a lifetime.

5. The larger the software, the smarter it is (this is why old people are so smart, and newborns are mind free).

6. The higher quality the software is, the smarter it is (this is why knowledgeable people are so much smarter).

7. All minds are made of 100% software (if you erase your mind, you mentally go back to being a newborn).

8. All communications (data-links) going to and from the brain are really going to the software mind.

9. All perception comes from software.

10. All intelligent control comes from software.

11. Software minds in operation create reality when they interact (perception and control) with a universe.

12. The reason "Phantom limb syndrome" exists is because the brain has no way to directly erase the old limb perceptual/control mirror software. The mind sees this outdated software as your real limb. Robots have the same problem, when they can't directly detect if their limbs have been torn off (and appropriately chuck the nonsense data steams into the bit bucket).

13. The life of the mind software is separate from the life of the brain hardware (if you want to create immortality you need to know this).

14. Psychology is really a software disciple, and exists separately from biology (and mind-faults are really software-faults).

15. Legal death really means erasing your mind software for good.

I hope this helps...

Thanks for listening. :)

Chimpanzees only have better non-verbal short term memory than humans, and the reason for this appears to be that human language and verbal recall circuits appear to interfere with and thus slow down non-verbal recall speed and efficiency.

Animals are suposed to communicate and recognize things using wave with vibration. However, humans rather has used language so they earned large amout of data about rules in the wolrd but lost intuition by sensing the wave a lot. That is why only human has such a huge knowlege but little intution in comparison to other animals.
