They may have nailed the setting but the character arcs are completely abandoned. It doesn't look like even the shell of who the characters are supposed to be or how their character dynamic is supposed to function.

Basically it's fanfiction. Like the Cursed Child level fanfiction...

As someone in their 20s who grew up with the books, if that trailer reflects the film at all it's Eragon, Percy Jackson, ATLA levels of disrespectful to the source material.

And even if it's "made for kids", make it for the kids who are reading the book now and want that story told well.

Didnt know the books or anything about this. My initially thought on this trailer was: Theyve made a prequel to "Men in Black" right away.
Looks dumb but i guess im not the target audience. No way im gonna spend time and money on this movie

I don't know what this is, but it sure as hell ain't Artemis Fowl. Artemis Fowl is not an adventure story where he teams up with magical creatures to save the world. Artemis Fowl is a selfish, egotistical super genius, super criminal mastermind who almost dies falling down a ladder. He's the ultimate brains and Butler is the muscle. This is just generic Spy Kids crap.

Is it?? Is it really? Cuz I think the second trailer took everything that the first trailer didn't ruin, and tore it to pieces.
They always say "Market it to kids" but like... kids aren't dumb?? I read this series as a 12 year old and so did everyone else I'm sure. Why bother putting the name Artemis Fowl on it if it's a run of the mill kids action spy movie? Now probably a lot less people are going to go see it.

Of course you think this trailers better than the 1st cause it makes it look like a generic adventure kids movie which is not even close to what the character is even resembled in the book series. So this trailer really just is directed to the common moviegoer demographic like yourself sir...

Here is what Artemis Fowl is: it’s unique. The main character is a terrible individual. He kidnaps a fairy because he wants gold and because he wants to prove that he can get one over on the fairies. That is his character at the start of the book and he goes through an arc. He’s different then most all fantasy protagonists because he actually knows about the world that he enters into and said world knows nothing about him. Disney has turned this into literally every other generic fantasy book: child looses parental figure (s) under mysterious circumstances. Later they find out said parent was connection to a mysterious world that the character is secretly a part of and has to go on a hero’s journey. HOW MANY STORIES LIKE THIS HAVE WE Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Alex Rider to name a few. Artemis Fowl was unique and interesting despite being a kids series. It had the courage to have morally grey characters and difficult storylines. Maybe not all of it worked but enough of it did to make it stand out in the pool of children’s / YA literature.

But no, Disney just took the names and the basic ideas of the world and wrote a completely new story that destroyed what the original books were about.

I mean I haven’t read the book in like 7 years I remember so little of it but that doesn’t really resemble what I remember at all I mean it doesn’t bother me I don’t look back on the series fondly it’s fairly average but thats not the books

Major plot points from the first Artemis Fowl book for comparison:
Artemis' father is missing and presumed dead, Artemis does not accept this.
The Fowl family is composed of criminal masterminds that have been around for centuries, though invasions and plagues
Butler is a bodyguard to Artemis and follows his directions to help in any way possible, Butler's skillset is wider than Jason Bourne's
Artemis is a super genius, but very bad at physical tasks and life skills, he is not able to correctly make a sandwich at age 13 despite knowing how to.
The fairy society is very tech heavy but very well hidden from the humans, Artemis has to steal and translate their bible before having any chance of outwitting them
At the age of 12 Artemis comes up with a plan to capture a fairy and ransom it for gold to help fund expeditions to locate his missing father and restore the family wealth.
Artemis is not opposed to using blackmail, poison, drugs, death threats or manipulation to achieve his goals, he is not a bystander and is in control most of the time.
Holly Short is kidnapped, imprisoned, and psychologically tortured in an effort to get gold from the Fairies for her safe return.
Mulch Diggums is a criminal dwarf that has to be blackmailed by the Fairy commander to break into the literal castle/fortress, that is the home of Artemis Fowl, to try and rescue Holly Short.
