In an age when women were possessions, God took notice of and specifically addressed the fears and needs of Hagar and Sarah. He is the God who sees us.

I love how God found Hagar when she was alone, abused, and pregnant (Gen 16:7). How tender is our God. He is the God who sees us (Genesis 16 :13). I also love the reminder that nothing is too hard for the Lord in Genesis 18:15.

I’m borrowing my God shot from John Bevere’s “The Awe of God, ” who shows how Abraham fears God, and how God honors this reverence by revealing His plans to him. God didn’t reveal His plans to Lot, who chose to live in Sodom, with those he must have known were wicked, but where he expected his wealth to increase. Abraham fears God, bows before Him, obeys the covenant immediately and completely with the circumcision of hundreds in his household. And God responds by revealing His will. Fearing God doesn’t put distance between us; it’s the requirement for intimacy with the Father.

My Godshot for today is this. 10 years have passed since the covenant that God made with Abram, and nothing happened since then. Or for the next 13 years, until God showed up when Abram was 99 years old. So, completely, 23 years have passed. But God remembered his promise. If I were Abraham, I would certainly start to grow a little skeptical of all of this. Ripe old age + no answer from God whatsoever about a promise made 23 years ago? But God still remembered it, and fulfilled it. So without taking matters into my own hands, I will trust God and his plans for me, in places where my efforts could not yield any effort.

The story of Hagar and Sarah teaches me to question everything in our culture to discern if it is obedient to God or merely seems normal and acceptable. Sarah was going along with her culture when she gave Hagar at to Abraham and so much conflict and heartache resulted. Knowledge of God's Word is necessary for us today to avoid making the same mistake.

We never sin in isolation. Great point. We believers are called the body of Christ so we're all connected and affect one another, indeed

There's a reason Hagar was treated harshly. She despised her mistress because now she was having a child by Abraham when Sarah couldn't. I believe this caused her to feel like she was going to supplant her mistress and be elevated over her. When the angel of the Lord told her to return and submit to Sarah's authority, she was humbled and that attitude got adjusted.

God is a promise keeper. Gives a promise to Abraham and makes a covenant with him to keep it. And that belongs to all of us 🙏

I learnt a lot from today's reading. It's really packed.
After the incidence with Hagar and Sarah, it would appear that God was silent on Abraham for about 13 years. Then in chapter 17 when he was 99, God came to him with a sharp rebuke.
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭17:1‬ ‭ESV‬‬
[1] When Abram was ninety-nine years old the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless,

God expected better from Abraham. Nonetheless, He still showed up to fulfil His promise.
May we not make a mistake that would cause a delay on the promises of God in our lives!

Again, in chapter 18, Abraham recognised the three men, that they were not ordinary people. He invited them and entertained them. Following this, a concrete timeline was given (or reassured) for the promised child.
It's important to be sensitive in the Spirit. So we do not miss an Angel the Lord is sending our way.

Thank you for the clarity on angels. So many people get them wrong and it's unfortunate

I saw the Trinity really clearly in the theophany to Abraham when he gets the bread and meat ready and everything. It specifically calls them 3 men, then the LORD (singular) says something. It’s especially clear in the NASB translation- a constant flipping back and forth between 3 & 1.

At first when I read this ( and this is my second time through it) I felt as if Abram did not have faith in God as on day 16 God had spoke to him letting him know he would have many decedents and God blessed him so he would be a blessing. Yet now I see more how Gods plans are working in so so many different ways. As always all for His Glory His plans for all our good. Amen 🙏🏻 ❤️😊

Romans 4:20 lends us to think Abraham laughed out of awe, not in disbelief.

This was such a great read today and lesson from TLC thank you,

Side note. Halleluyah Scriptures bible says in the text: the messenger of YHWH (Yahuah). Also, there is no confusion between LORD and lord. When our heavenly father speaks, I know exactly that it is the Most High.
