I found it beautiful that God always preserves and protects Hagar in the lonely and unfortunate situations that she’s in. When she was crying and upset, even if she didn’t go to God, God went to her and comforted and blessed her.

There were so many disturbing incidents in today's reading. In chapter 19, the wickedness of Sodom is truly at the point of no return. Their hearts were hard. It irks me that Lot was willing to give his virgin daughters to these wicked men. These same daughters each sleep with their father in order to have children. In chapter 20, Abraham once again puts his wife Sarah in a compromising position. Yikes! What a mess! My first God shot is that He rescues. He rescued Lot from the destruction of Sodom. My second is that God is a protector. He protected Sarah while with Abimelech. He also watched over Hagar and Ishmael after they were sent away in chapter 21. My third is that God keeps His promises. The promised child is conceived, and Isaac is born. My fourth is God's amazing grace and mercy. Abraham was so flawed (as we all are), yet God still chose him to make a covenant with.

God is a Promise Keeper. Genesis 21:1 says, ... "the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised."

Sin after sin, the human heart strays, yet mercy upon mercy, God extends. How amazing is His heart to forgive our faults and work through the imperfections of humanity!

God’s first instinct is to be faithful to me even when I am unfaithful to Him. Abraham again failed to trust God and sees that Abimelech in this instance fears God perhaps more than Abraham trusted Him, regarding Sarah. And yet God intervenes to show His faithful and merciful character.

Sarah was certainly a great beauty. To be so desired to the point of being taken to the king's harem at the age of 89 is really incredible. Not that older women cannot be beautiful, but to have Abraham twice scared for his life on account of her appearance makes me think that at almost 90 she was truly unique and more stunningly beautiful than we could imagine.

I had so many notes today. Beginning with the differences of how Abraham and Lot reacted to the angels. Abraham ran to meet them, bowed humbly, killed for the feast, baked bread with the finest of flour! Lot stood up to greet, no humbling, he makes a feast and serves unleavened bread... styrofoam! Lot just as he chose the best land previously, again wanted his own way and asked to stay in a town Zoar that had been destined to be destroyed. Haggar & Lot survived because of Abram's righteousness. Although he has many flaws much like David.. God sees his heart!

When God visited Hagar in her despair she called Him the God who sees and today He reveals that He is the God who hears as well, saying that He heard the cries of the child where he was. God sees us and hears us and comes to us where we are.

This is such a wonderful way of going through the Bible. Now I look for God shots. Thank you for the very insightful commentaries. Good to be where the joy is.

At a time when it seemed all hope is gone, God shows up. Hallelujah.
That's what happened to Hagar and Ishmael.
It reminds us of the faithfulness and mercies of God.
God hears the cry of the orphan and the needy.

Aloha and good afternoon BR Ohana. My God shot was when he told Abraham to pray for Abimelech. In 20:17, Abraham prayed unto God; and God healed Abimelech, his wife and his maidservant; and they bare children. All the honor and praise are to God. As always, he is where the JOY is!!!💯

My Godshot is that He is THE judge.
This isn't popular now, but we all do well to remember who we answer to

Once again, God sees Hagar and promised her seed that they will also be blessed. God has a special purpose for the non-Jews as well as the Jews. I also listen to Thru the Bible with Dr. J. Vernon McGee, and many Muslims all over the world are coming to Christ. He loves everyone!

My God shot was God's tender heart in saving Hagar's and her child's lives.

😊 On the bright side, Lot is a type that exemplifies how God moves his kids out of the way before he pours out judgment on the world:

"if by turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction, making them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; and if he rescued righteous Lot, greatly distressed by the sensual conduct of the wicked (for as that righteous man lived among them day after day, he was tormenting his righteous soul over their lawless deeds that he saw and heard); then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment, " (2 Peter 2:6-9)

"Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth." (Revelation 3:10)
