Why Max Verstappen needs to embrace his inner Prost

The 2024 Mexican Grand Prix was a wild ride where Max Verstappen received two ten-second penalties.

There are only four races and two sprint races left in the #formula1 World championship and if Max Verstappen wants to beat Lando Norris and win the championship, he needs to change his approach!

He can't keep getting penalties from stewards like Johnny Herbert and he can't afford to crash! He needs to behave like Alain Prost!

Johnny Herbert has no business being a steward.

Talking about potential Lando titles sounds stupid to me. How many points were between them in Miami? - 53. How many points does he have with 4 races to go? - 47. Lando in a faster and better balanced car took 6 points from this gap in 12 races...

As a Max fan, this season has been a nightmare so far, largely. Going into every GP knowing that the chances of winning are small to non-existent isn't fun.

Damon Hill never liked Verstappen. Sorry Dad is a hardcore F1 fan.

Max is gonna win it, it will take a miracle for Lando to even get close to Max.

I think the second penalty was to be expected. But the first one was clearly Max ahead at the apex, taking his line. Peter Windsor's take was interesting; he thinks Lando deliberately went for an impossible overtake, knowing that if he ran off track, especially after last week's controversy, the FIA would come down like a tonne of bricks on Max immediately.

But yeah, I was frustrated by Max's driving overall in those few laps, too. He was clearly seeing red, whether that was because of his battery issues or because he was sort of ganged up on in the drivers briefing, or the constant onslaught of accusations by the press, Mclaren, etc, or a combination of all three. But the end result was he finished 6th instead of the far more likely finishing position of 4th, losing 4 points in the progress. I'm not surprised at all that he lost his temper, though. He's only human.

The online Anti-Max brigade have already decided this will be another illlegitimate WDC if he wins because of the bib and brake duct conspiracies. They're a lost cause. The press and Mclaren will spend the next four races throwing as many conspiracies and personal insults at Max as possible, as per usual. He just needs to shut that all out, drive smart and hold onto his still significant lead. Cage his inner Senna until nex year. He really has fought like a lion this year, with a terrible car. If he wins I think it will be the most impressive achievement of his career.

max fans can debate all they want wether he should do or not these things. max is a dirty driver. people want to see it all burn until someone gets burned. thats dangerous. safety first, or no fun at all when someone get really injured.

I think honestly, Lando deserved his penalty, but Max deserved one too for forcing him off track by braking far too late to make the corner (hence why he made the apex first and ended up off track himself) it's a shame on one hand, cause his defending was sublime before that moment. In terms of Mexico, the first penalty was a tad harsh, but the 2nd one should probably have been a drive through like back in the day. I agree with you totally though that it's a shame, because Max is probably the greatest of all time and people will use it as a stick to beat him of course. It does show he's at least a little scared of Lando tho, plus him having a weaker car now, I think he's a tad rattled... I am sure he'll indeed win it if he just stays calm like you said!

Ofcourse the main issue here is the car is just too slow and chew ups the tyres but Max shouldn't push his luck too much considering stewards want to make a point now. His second penalty was deserved and as a Max fan it can be sometimes frustrating to see him do this. Sometimes he just need to accept the situation he is in just like he has done most of this season after Hungary. The frustration for Max comes when there is a hope of winning or good result but then it just fades away because the car just is no where compared to what was expected, same thing happened in Hungary, but later when he accepted the cars reality he didnt push situations and still worked his way like a Prost would. RedBull needs to manage expectations with this car and just say its not championship worthy anymore and let Max do whatever he can, whatever the result i the end. For me the championship is kinda over with the way the car is right now and way Ferrari ahead too. So for me there is no expectation for Max to win this and I have made my peace with it and take whatever comes positively.

Great video as always! I agree he needs to be more Prost, and hopefully, not pull a 1997 Schumacher haha!

My thoughts:
The 10 seconds for Turn 4 was always going to happen after Austin, the FIA made that clear in the documents last week, the drivers all knew this, the argument of 5 seconds vs 10 is just copium from Max fans and sadly there was two stewards present made that an easy angle to go for :P

Turn 7 I think he was lucky it was only 10, could've easily have been a drive through (overtook off track, forced off track and caused a collision), so I think that for me makes it hard to say the stewards were biased in the first incident :/

So he should turn in on his points rival to causing a dnf/dsq so p2 can’t score points either

Max should not change at all. His attractive way of driving generated millions of new F1 followers worldwide over the past 10 years. We want to see free, unlimited, aggressive and exciting racing. We don't want track limit shit, over regulated rules, drivers getting afraid to overtake because of a 1000 page rulebook, and we don't want biased British stewards deciding the championship. But that is what's happening. Max should reel in his 4th championship, and after that quit F1 racing forever. The sport is f*cked by way too much steward interventions.

In my opinion Lando is not a worthy champion. A championship won om whining, apeals and luck.
