I grew up in that restaurant. That’s my uncle playing the bartender and I actually learn to bartend in that bar. So cool to have this on film

A brilliant detail is that this is the first time since the opening scene that we hear Bernard Herrmann’s music. It only plays whenever Scottie experiences acrophobia and whenever he and Judy/Madeleine are together, creating a musical connection between his vertigo and his obsession with her.

Kim Novak's performance in this film earned her the "Best Woman in a Film award". 64 years later, she still has not relinquished it.

Maybe the most artistic one and a half minutes in all of moviedom ...
The setting, the colors, the cinematography, the costumes, the music ... Bernard Hermann's music! ... and Kim Novak at her most beautiful ... and not one intelligible word spoken ...

everyone's evening clothes are exceptionally elegant, especially the black&green kim novak is wearing.

No intelligible dialogue, and tells us -- in a little over a minute -- everything we need to know to set up the rest of the film. The edited turning toward and away from 1:16 - 1:23 is gorgeous and heartbreaking.

Located at 847 Montgomery Street, Ernie's Restaurant was a popular landmark in San Francisco for over 60 years and eventually closed in 1995. The restaurant was the recipient of 32 consecutive annual five-star awards from the Mobil Travel Guide.[1]
