With Scottie currently busy and stressed with his new case, Midge tries to cheer him up in the most innocent way only for Scottie to be offended.

Film Description:
An ex-police officer who suffers from an intense fear of heights is hired to prevent an old friend's wife from committing suicide, but all is not as it seems. Hitchcock's haunting, compelling masterpiece is uniquely revelatory about the director's own predilections and hang-ups and is widely considered to be one of his masterworks.

Midge's apartment is a cocoon, a warm welcoming and safe space. The yellow walls, the framed art, and her works-in-progress stacked about her workspace along with the million-dollar view all contribute to its' inviting appearance. In this scene the down to earth Midge has shed her pastel sweaters for a shocking deep red, only the second time in the film where reds dominate. Midge is suddenly worried and jealous that she's about to lose her man, a man with whom she broke an engagement 10 or 15 years earlier yet a man who's remained in her life and never married- "Available Fergueson". She realizes he'll soon be gone from her life because he's so enthralled by Madeline Elster. Now she wants Scotty to see her differently, her red sweater screams, "Look at me, I don't want to lose you!" But poor Midge has no chance against this Venus. Her practical joke has backfired miserably, and she now knows Scotty is a lost cause for her; we do and should feel badly for her.
