Leon Russell’s classic ballad "A Song For You" has been covered many times, by many artists. Ray Charles recorded version, from his 1993 album My World, earned him a Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. A favorite song of his good friend Willie Nelson, Charles famously sang the song to him on the occasion of his 70th birthday live at The Beacon Theatre in New York.

This song was written by the late great southern rocker Leon Russel . He also played with and composed and arranged songs for every genre imaginable . A song for you has been recorded by 200 different music artists . Ray does a fine job here . But i think the best cover was done by Donny Hathaway . Hathaway is popularly known for his two hit single duos with Roberta Flack ."Where Is the Love" and "The Closer I Get to You and other collaborations with Flack . He did much singing, song writing, arranging and composing for other artists and released some solo albums . Tragically, he took his own life " as often lovers do" in January 1979 . He was only 33 years old . he is sincerely and sadly missed

My mom loves Ray Charles, but she always had Nat King Cole records. I walked into an antique store and the owner was playing her Ray Charles vinyl record, it had GEORGIA ON MY MIND on it. I was hooked. I asked her if it was possibly for sale. Of course she said no. But I went out and bought some of his CD'S. Some people sing from their head, and some sing from the heart, but Ray sings to your soul.
