How will you be using YouTube Shorts for your channel in 2024? Let us know below! ⬇

A good example of effectively using shorts to drive traffic to long form content is Tyler Oliveira, who essentially just uses them as teaser trailers for his documentaries.

I went all in on Youtube shorts and I'm happy with my success. I'm not here for the ego but I get recognized all the time when I'm riding my motorcycle on the street. My goal right now is to get 100k subs (by end of March 2024) the silver play button, and start my second Youtube channel. I already have affiliated marketing and planning on selling my merchandise in 2024. 💰🎉 You do you but I would recommend for any new creator to do Youtube shorts in 2024.

I would be interested to know Youtubes total "long form" views and watch time for 2023 and whether has it increased or decreased since the introduction to
"Shorts"? Views and Watch time while also taking into account the total number of videos and creators. The question is have Shorts hurt the "long form" landscape or has it helped?

I was giving up on shorts but then last week I posted my most viewed short and I posted over 100 shorts.
PS. If your long form and short are the exact same style and niche you would notice a boost in long form views. That short generated a lot of views for all my videos long and short. So what they are saying could be true but you have to test it and try it out for yourself. Other people in my niche post both long-form and short and they have great success. Your shorts and videos need to be very similar same style.

I dont have a huge subscriber count but i noticed that people who subscribed to me from shorts actually enjoyed when I started making long form videos! But ultimately, long form videos are what I always wanted to make. Shorts helped bring traffic. Maybe it's just my niche, but it has helped my long form videos get atleast 1k+ views. Before using shorts, i was only getting less than 50 views on long form videos.

Shorts is great too. At least now days that youtube is continuously improving it.

I believe that you should because Shorts are getting more and more popular every single day. People don't have attention span for anything longer, so I am recently trying to create expressive content (and after I post it, I use a lot of Famester to help me go viral immediately).

I think I'm gonna give up on shorts as the better my shorts do the worse my long form does! got 300 watch hours left till full monetisation so gonna focus on Long form till I hit it

Been trying to figure out what to do with Long form and shorts. Hearing this gave me a different perspective of shorts. I'm going to concentrate back into doing long form and have shorts as a secondary thing.

QUESTION: Can you guys make a video explaining the YT boost?

-Does YT give the most impressions on the first video or is it the first week you make a channel?
-Does it go by video or timeframe.
If someone makes a new channel, can they make 1 video per week or should they upload 5 videos the first week to optimize on that boost of impressions 🤗 Thank you

7:08 I believe I just experienced this on this channel. My first 2 videos were pushed aggressively after 2 days, getting around 20k impressions, in two waves (so two different pushes for each). I assumed it was just YouTube seeing the videos were decent, and testing larger audiences to find OUR audience (like I've always been told), but they've both plateaued (exactly like it's said in this video), and my 3rd video (released 1 week later) never got the same push, despite similar CTR, retention and watch time. I assumed it's because it just wasn't as catchy (still do), until I saw this theory and it got me thinking.

I have a few channels that are all in there infancy stage. Only one of my channels (a karate training channel) I use shorts to drive people to the long format videos. I use the shorts as a "movie trailer". It is working pretty well. But I agree that shorts and long format videos are for two entirely different people so I don't use this "movie trailer" method for my more popular channel.

This is a perfect video explaining why I don't do Shorts or TikTok. There are plenty of things I could do that work on both, but it's basically pointless.
For example, I do cosplay related stuff. I could do TONS of things with JUST myself. I've had a few ideas already, such as the ones everyone does like transition videos, where you do a large movement to cover a cut, and it's transitioning from normal clothes, to a costume of some kind. There are hundreds of different transition types for ONE costume alone, let alone all the others I have. That's tons of videos. Same with my showcases where I show off cosplayers at conventions I attend (many of those videos also go into my vlog OF the convention), where I could use those clips in shorts. But again, it's basically pointless, and a waste of time. Not to mention randomly you will have shorts breaking up the actual regular videos, which looks weird. Not to mention TikTok videos would NOT get people over here to my youtube page.

I do both. I also tag my long form video to the shorts video but it doesn’t draw anyone in. I also noticed a huge drop in views on my shorts which ironically enough my long form content is taking a hit too despite hiring a editor and putting money into my content. It’s like a game I’m trying to figure out constantly.

I've abandoned shorts as a awhole on my channel, only posting long form content and have seen a significant jump in watch time and subscriptions - there is no wrong or right, but I'd rather build a community for the long game that wants to binge watch longer videos of mine. I just broke 500 subs, hope I get to 1K soon! Thanks for all the tips and advice!

Trying to work out if I should keep posting YouTube shorts or focus on long form. Most of my subs to date have come from shorts and I’m worried it could kill my long form videos if I’m attracting the wrong crowd…

I did notice that TikTok is going towards longer content too. I get a notification everytime I post to post videos longer than 60 seconds. Which just shows people still like longform videos.

Very informative... In my experience, most subscribers from shorts do not translate into views for longer videos. In fact, I have checked a lot of other channels in my hobby and for example someone may have 100K subs and get an average of 200 views on a long video. After looking, they do a lot of shorts. I still do shorts but limit them. My audience is much older and they prefer actual videos vs shorts. Some have even commented that they don't like shorts... It is a good way to get subs but not hours watched.
