Singer. He was a member and father of the Mills Brothers, an African-American pop jazz singing group. His worked as a barber and sang with the Four Kings of Harmony, barbershop quartet. His sons originally sang in front of his barbershop as Four Boys and a Kazoo. After the 1936 death of his son, John Jr., he followed his wife's suggestion to take Junior's place in the act. He replaced the bass and tuba. He performed with his sons until he retired in 1957. The Mills Brothers were awarded three Gold records and were inducted in the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1998.

Always enjoyed "Glow Worm". They had a great sound and J.H. Mills Sr. had an excellent voice.

John Senior stepped into John Juniors role when he died in 1936, showing us that the sons' musical talent was definitely passed from father to sons. And maybe mother to sons, as well. I know nothing of their mother.🤔
