I used to have the gears 5 edition xbox one but sold it a few years back and i could connect the headphones in the 3.5 jack on the back of the controller and everything was fine. Well last Christmas we got my son the cheaper xbox one digital has the same controller with the 3.5 jack but when you plug in the headphones no sound comes from them and when you press the xbox home button where you could normally adjust the volume there is nothing there no sound, no volume control.. Any ideas?

I’ve used 3 different headsets plugged into my controller and none of them work including a new one the volume just comes out of my tv could someone tell me what to do please

I plugged it in but when I talk my friends can’t hear me and also when I plug it in I can still hear it out loud

Ok one thing to try as well, change the usb connecting cable to the rear vs front usb port on the console itself. I am wired and this made it work. Shouldn't I agree. USB is som voodoo kinda sheebab.

Charge your headphones even if they are cable it helped me. It’s a dump thing that can happen just charge your headphones 🎧😇

I FIGURED IT OUT! Go to your settings, then devices & connections, accessories then update your controller with your headset plugged in!!! That’s what worked for me!!
