Repost due to news footage used and removed.

Have “false flags” given way to false hope in Ukraine? Despite the images of bold resistance, will Russian military setbacks eventually lead to a bad outcome for the citizens of that nation? Rep. Mike Gallagher, a member of the Armed Services and Intelligence committees, joins Hoover senior fellows Niall Ferguson, H. R. McMaster, and John Cochrane to discuss the latest news in Eastern Europe, US strategic choices, the war’s economic ramifications, plus China’s short-term (as peacemaker?) and long-term (to absorb Taiwan) aspirations.

ABOUT THE SERIES

GoodFellows, a weekly Hoover Institution broadcast, features senior fellows John Cochrane, Niall Ferguson, and H.R. McMaster discussing the social, economic, and geostrategic ramifications of this changed world. They can’t banter over lunch these days, but they continue their spirited conversation online about what comes next, as we look forward to an end to the crisis.

There should not even be a “debate” about a No Fly Zone — it’s not an option. Period.

Greetings from Germany. Listening to these intellectuals gives me hope that America can still muster some brain power to bring to bear on these crises. Together with courage and and not a little brawn we may all come out of this ok.

While the whole world worry about Ukraine, don’t forget the biggest threat in the world is a country in the east!

Fantastic show as always...Q: How will we secure peace in the world after this conflict ?

Why don't the Goodfellows discuss the Russian preconditions stated before the invasion with which Ukraine, NATO and the US would not negotiate; i.e., Ukraine neutrality, no Ukraine membership in NATO, recognition of the eastern breakaway provinces, and recognition of Crimea as part of Russia?

This is a repost of last week's show without the cold open, which we received some negative feedback on. A new episode of Good Fellows (view mail!) will be out on the morning (Pacific Time. ) of 3/16. SI - Good Fellows EP

Going into this I am 100% against a no fly zone. Let's see if this changes myind or reaffirmes it.

I thought that there were still plenty of gas leases that are not tapped?

Why wouldn't Russia consider the financial war by the US as requiring a military (nuclear) response?

38:00. There may be other reasons, John. As to Taiwan, geography makes the decision different in regard to reasons cited. 39:40. From an Information Science perspective, the examination of List A and List B is a case study in the brand new field of “The Information Science of Spheres of Influence”. Who’d a thunk it? 49:30. Great idea, Niall. Let’s start tomorrow with cash and bureaucracies and credit-claiming politicos with no military knowledge. Much better for politicians (Mike excepted, of course) than modern TR Buzzphrase doctrine about walking softly. Loud bureaucrats in Ninja attire…. As a bureaucrat might say, “we shall take that under advisement”. 56:00 After the shelling stops, there will be plenty of time to argue with HR about history lessons. I will let HR cheat a bit. A 2018 Greyzone interview with Stephen Cohen (on YouTube) is approximately 95% in agreement with my own views. But, once an invasion line is crossed, everything changes except the written record of debate pre-invasion. 59:00. Why is the Biden Administration giving us the bum’s rush on discussing the absurdities of the Iranian JCPOA II deal? In terms of free debate on such an important topic, the Administration has been treating those opposed as if the objectors are March 2022 war protesters on Red Square, in front of where waxen Lenin used to be. Need some comparisons, Mike? I have nothing but time on my hands.

Perhaps he sung going to gamble on the economy but also the existence of Russia. Honesty, how long does it take to rebuild everything back to normal is a question with the isolation from the whole world. It’s pathetic to see that!

Plus they are now using online payment system which usage coverage is way too broad enough in all western market ad the west open to them, but your payment system is limited to visa master which in their market may not be widely used. That’s a threat concern!

Russia has not threatened NATO since the collapse of the USSR. NATO has threatened Russia by expanding an alliance for which there was no longer a need, and building missile bases in the FSU countries NATO expanded into.
